Yeah...this blows. I was waiting for any kind of news for the iMac, but nothing...not one bit of news. I'm thinking of just going out and buying one of the current lineups for the iMac, but I just don't know. I need a computer soon, but I'm wondering if any new iMac's with the NVIDIA chipset as rumors mentioned will be shipping any time soon.
Well it certainly was more of a whimper than a bang for the last keynote.
I have a 17" MBP and honestly 80% of the time it's too big and 19% of the time it's too small. It'll carve it's own niche if it's the only matte MBP but it's not like it's all that important to the line up new battery or not.
I don't think I can hold out anymore guys. I'm going to break down and finally buy an ipod touch 32GB cause I just don't know if Apple will ever come out with the mactouch.
It would be such a waste of money too if it will end up happening that Apple will indeed launch such a product later in the year.

I think the iPod Touch and MacTouch would be almost completely different products anyways
I'm loving Apple's decision to trash tradeshows. It means any product can come
at any time.
I wouldn't hold your breath. How long has it been since the mini was updated? There is really no excuse for not updating it and the iMac. They're beyond stale spec wise-they smell like rotting carcass. I'm interested in a new desktop but I'll get a windows machine before shelling out that kind of money for that hardware.
Sorry Apple, the RDF has only so much effect and then reality sets in.

Yeah iLife and iWork look pretty sweet from what I've seen. I definitely be looking to upgrade as I use iPhoto and iMovie the most and they seem to have gotten the most attention.

Dude, the iPod touch is great! You're waiting for a unicorn if you think you'll be getting a Mac touch anytime soon. Trust me, you'll love the touch. And 32GB is a must.

I want a unicorn too! And one that shoots lasers out of its eyes. And I want to ride on it with thor's power hammer....Mjolnir and smash noobs with it!
I can dream.
Whatever. I think I'm going to head on across the street from work to radioshack and buy the 32GB ipod touch to cheer me up. But I just KNOW later in the year I will feel like I wasted the money in comparison to a certain Apple mobile product coming soon.
From the live report I read the crowd seemed in a dazed lull.

I agree with Apple's decision to leave macworld. However at the same time I'm disturbed now that Apple does not have a yearly show that is sort of like the epic state of the union address for tech. A place for the people to gather....a mecca (hate that term) if you will for Apple lovers and tech lovers alike. I'm also disturbed by the fact that even though its good that Apple isn't under the pressure to present in January that at the same time it might not be so good that the pressure isn't there anymore.
Now, with a release that should only take them a year or two they might be tempted to extend that several more months or a couple of YEARS more! Assuming of course that Apple will now have several very small product releases throughout the year.
In other words it might tempt them to become lazy. Sometimes pressure is a good thing.
But I just KNOW later in the year I will feel like I wasted the money in comparison to a certain Apple mobile product coming soon.
Maybe.
I don't think so... this economy is going to crush any costly new product introductions (and when I say that, I mean products that would require a lot of supporting advertising to create consumer awareness... this would not include iPod or iPhone upgrades).
Well, saying I'm disappointed is an understatement. Although, Phil exceeded my expectations regarding his presentations skills. The script sounded exactly like when Steve does the keynote.
On the other hand, I think this implies that papa Steve isn't going anywhere soon. The application features Phil presented, Steve wouldn't have done himself anyway, The Macbook was just there to save Phil's face and the keynote from being a complete fiasco.
So, I think Steve saved all the good stuff (tablet, iPhone update, etc) for himself. His ego is still big. Let's hope they announce a separate event soon. When's the CY Q4 numbers coming out? I think they did better than most analysts think.
My guess is that Jobs does not want to pay IDG to appear at Macworld, when in Job's opinion, Apple is the star of the show.
So even if Apple *did* have something big to announce, my guess is that they will wait and announce it in their own time. ... Perhaps in the middle of CES. Wouldn't it be funny if the biggest story in CES week was from Apple? And Apple were not even there.
Downloaded and have been using iWork all day; some very nice tweaks to it. Wish they would add better voice-overs to Keynote, but that's life. Also installed Keynote Remote and used it immediately for a presentation; awesome. iWork.com will be useful, too. Will try it out later this week.
Very keen to get my hands on the new iLife; showed it to the wife today and she was very impressed with Faces and Places and the lessons in Garageband. I personally like the tweaks to iMovie and look forward to using them.
Too bad I don't need a 17" MBP, or that thing is sweet. Love what they did with the battery control adjusting charge to individual cells; that's innovation.
All in all, I'm happy with the releases today, as they are immediately useful to me. Had they released a new iMac, that would have been great, but it is still a purchase that is a couple of months off for me. The one thing I really want and need is a new monitor that will work with my MacPro from mid-2008, but this wasn't the forum for such a release.
That said, I do some consultation work for an Apple Reseller, so I'm not insanely excited, but generally looking forward to when Apple sends out their demo installer to update all the iLife and iWork and demo content on Retail demo Macs. I'll be hanging out in the reseller stores quite a bit playing with things once we get the official demo DVDs through Apple distribution channels.

It's like that film "Mongol" ... or Survivor. You need alliances when you are weak, then when you become stronger than them, you destroy your allies.
Also,
THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE (big yearly Apple event) ... And that ONE was not to be "IDG" but Apple itself. From the ashes of Macworld... what will rise???
To announce some of the mooted hardware - such as a revised Mac Mini - I don't think it warrants a press event at all.
But if Apple need to communicate something more significant. Like a home-server shared-media ecosystem. Then a purpose-built Cupertino event will be the right thing to do.

Families will love the new iLife and people like me are happy to see iWork (downloading it now).
Other things will come soon.

Apple have obviously fallen-out with IDG.
