Here's a link to the stand-alone updater. I'm seeing some mixed reports. Seems like some people are experiencing *BIG* performance gains on older G4's and the like, and others can barely get the thing to install without flipping out. All in all though, sounds like the best update they've released yet, relative to what we had before (in each case).
I had a similar experience to ZO: *REALLY* long restart, picked up the login progress bar halfway through its march, and my login items took forever to load. But subsequent to that it's all fine.
I've only noticed greater, um, insistence to animate items (to the Dock, closing folders, etc.) with either a desktop pattern changing every 5 seconds or using a screensaver on the desktop. Not perfectly smooth but pretty damn close. iTunes visuals seems about the same (~30 fps with high-quality, ~60 fps with low quality). When opening a folder full of images, it will hang for just a fraction of a second, then it opens with all the image previews up and any file info ready, as opposed to watching it convert images one at a time. I imagine that really big images will cause a big wait with this feature on still (but that's what I figure in any case, and why I leave the option off in those folders).
10.2.1 seems fine on my iBook. One thing I don't understand is why my iBook starts up sooooo slowly. My dad's old iMac starts up a lot faster. It literally takes about 4 minutes to get passed the gray screen.
Yep it's a good update. Everything is just a bit better. In Omniweb the scroll is much faster, finder is faster, WC3 even plays a bit better (although blizzard still needs to make that patch) All in all it's a solid good update.
Startup is normal after that first loooooong reboot. It might be slightly faster, but I suspect it's probably just a placebo effect. Can you still start up, holding down the "v" key to get a verbose login screen (all text)? For someone who hasn't upgraded yet, it might clue us in on a particular process going on at that time.
No major problems with 10.2.1 on my iBook (Dual USB). I experienced the slow startup as well. Glad to hear that it will go away next time.
On the negative side, I am still experiencing the problem with characters and entire lines of text disappearing/not rendering, mostly in MS Word, Internet Explorer and Chimera. This bug is terribly annoying and hinders my daily work. I hope 10.2.2 will finally fix the disappearing character bug! Otherwise, 10.2.1 works fine.

I'm in the "yet-to-have-a-problem-with-Finder-FTP-except-it-doesn't-upload" camp, but 10.2.1 certainly doesn't seem to have changed anything.

I did notice that some web pages which used to take forever to load were working fast now. That pleases me.
The startup right after the update seemed a bit slow, but maybe that was just a one-time thing.
yeah, first startup is deathly slow. I would recommend shutting down after first restart and restart... nice n fresh

option-v boots in verbose mode.
option-s boots in single-user mode.
shift boots in safe mode.
They're the same as with 10.1.

Any time I restart under Jaguar it's slow, not just the first time.
We're running the same iBook config!
I had one weird freeze on mine after the update, the flurry screensaver was just frozen and I couldn't force quit it....I had to do a forced restart.
