Well, I updated my PowerBook G3 (firewire) with no ill effects. Web browsing seems more responsive to me, already. Everything works fine so far.
iTunes frame rates during the screen effects seem unchanged since both updates today. I'm glad it registers Open GL now, but I hoped it would be a more noticible difference.
My start-up time after the update was normal, but I selected shutdown before restarting my machine. It took some time to shutdown, and so I suspect it did its thing then, instead of after rebooting.
I have had the stalled finder/odd icon flashing problem before this update. It only happened once, and everything has been fine ever since. Beats me...
But it was a problem before the update on my machine, at least
Regardless, a nice update that seems stable so far....YAY!
OK...I found a complaint, already. Mail still suffers from not responding to clicked links in some e-mails. I have only had this problem with WebMD e-mail, but I am still experiencing the problem in 10.2.1.
I click....nothing...the link chages color...But nothing happens otherwise.
OK...More...so I'll add this edit...
You still cannot tell when you select a picture preview icon on the desktop. I click on it, and it still does not grey-out at all. Also, the screen-shots (command-shift-4) still generate a PDF file. Maybe Apple decided to go to PDF, but it is annoying to convert the file everytime.
Under the Internet Preferences pane, I still cannot select my .Mac address without it reverting to unselected. It tells me if I select this new account (same...I changed nothing), then I will lose the old one. I click it, again and again, to see no difference. I quit Preferences, reload, go to Internet...same thing all over again...
Also...
iChat still has problems with accepting direct connections. I find I must beg AIM users, especially AIM Window users (most people), to select "send file" to send me something. I can send anything to them normally (dragging...).
iChat still lags time to time, too. It occurs rarely for me, but it happens. It has happened only once since the update.

Same happened to me (already with the update 10.1->10.2 BTW) on OS X client. OS X Server 10.2 does'nt seem to be affected (same machine, other HDD).

Just slightly off topic, but I thought I'd share: did you know that with Jaguar, safe booting is back? If you hold down the shift key during startup, it only loads what Jaguar needs to run and none of the user-installed additions that could cause a crash. (I'm guessing it does this by loading /System/Library, skipping /Library entirely, and loading ~/Library.) I thought this was pretty neat, and I've never seen it mentioned around here.
Well, it went on first time, no problems (although I did fear that the Installer had fallen over, since it was taking forever to do its thing), slept while I did, woke up again no problem, everything works... I've yet to see anything that's hugely changed. Dontcha just love point upgrades?
I'll give it a week or so before I know whether or not the "incredibly slow waking" problem has been resolved, since this seems to be uptime related (probably some unwieldy log file that only gets dealt with during shutdown/bootup).
Alright, I'm no longer convinced of gambit's claim on this one. I think the SUPE has a firm grip on him (Software Update Placebo Effect, in case you were wondering).
In order to provide the common man (and woman) with a more objective look at 10.2.1, I will voluntarily do the following: install 10.2 on a clean drive, set up the system and test it for an hour or so, using such tools as Mail, IE, and iTunes. I will then install my main apps, and use them for a while. Finally, I will install 10.2.1 and test the same apps all over again.
Will report findings here, as I know you will all be holding your breath the whole time.

What do you mean? You're trying to tell me that, for whatever reason, Quartz Extreme isn't faster on my machine since the upgrade? Well, it is, and things run much smoother than before, no SUPE delusions here.
How insulting. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />
Urban Terror locks up the whole machine. Tried twice. Both times total lock, only force restart worked.
BTW, weird thing, the first time it was restarting after the crash, it was checking the HD... was about to finish the grey screen, and it restarted by itself!

Relax, man. It was just a joke. I was just pointing out that most people don't seem to be seeing the kind of significant system-wide performance gains you noted. Maybe it had to do with your install process - was your original insall a clean one, or did you use Archive / Upgrade? If the optimization thing cleaned up a bunch of your files and pre-binded them, that could be the cause for your performance gains rather than massive QE changes, for example.
Also, I don't see anything on Apple's documentation that points to major QE changes, though the web browser thing might indirectly be related to some kind of QE change....
Anyway, it was all in good fun. Wasn't trying to question your credibility or anything.

Brad: Holding down shift? You sure about that? Edit: just double checked and holding down shift doesn't automatically initiate a safe boot in 10.1.5. Perhaps some other key-combo does, but shift is back in Jag.
Moogs: I don't know, but what I do know is that my friends noticed QE performance as well. Didn't mean to sound defensive, and I also didn't mean to imply that the 10.2.1 update caused HUGE performance increases. I just meant: Plasma Tunnel was unplayable before the update because of choppiness, and now it's unplayable because it gets me motion sick and I throw up in my mouth.
Wtf is wrong with the 10.2 Software Update. It keeps telling me I can't download stuff. Can someone please transfer the update to me via iChat? My Mac.com name is ssfreitas.
I'm in Gambit's boat that it still feels a bit smoother, espcially during heavy use of the hard drive and/or OpenGL (my iMac supports QE). It could be in large part to the pre-binding, butonce I restarted a second time, it feels a bit Snappier(tm). Sorry, but it's the first time I've used the word in earnest at least.

does it rain in geneva ?
It <a href="http://meteoschweiz.nzz.ch/meteoschweiz/images/radar1.jpg" target="_blank">did</a> when I was installing the update, you think this may be the reason for this strange behaviour?

What the hell? Hitting command-shift-3 used to take screenshots in tiff format. Oh well, Preview can convert pdf to other image formats quickly.
I got rid of FruitMenu, Windowshad, ALL NORTON crap (Disk and Antivirus) and well... everything that was in the login items
All is good now...
Havent tried Toast yet, but at least Urban Terror is ok now... and thats the important thing
BTW... Im getting an error from Chimera... says Cannot Run Navigator Because its already running

With 10.2, I couldn't send email through our exchange server at work using mail.app. Now I can.
I wish the finder FTP was fixed, though.
