With these updates, does anyone know if Airport Extreme be able to back up with Time Machine, with an external USB hard drive attached to the Airport Extreme?

Dude, Airport Express' USB does not work for Hard Drive.

    That's what I recall.

    Only for Printer.

    Therefore, it's a hardware limitation.

I don't think even upgrading would give you Time Machine support.

It's what Marketing terms call Product Segmentation.

As for AirPort Extreme, I have AEBS and Iomega MiniMax and that's how I use my Time Machine.

And it works, now, I'll add another Iomega MiniMax.

Uhm, DUDE, it was possible to use a USB attached hard drive with AEBS, TOTALY DUDE. It was NOT possible to use it for Time machine.

DUDE, get your facts straight, DUDE.

I believe we're the same dudes talking in two different sites.

So, like I said on Macrumours Forum, as far as I have my settings.

AEBS works in Time Machine, using external USB HDD plugged into the USB Port.

When I got my AEBS (802.11n) back in Summer 2007. You need to update the firmware and enable the Disk something function, and mount your external HDD.

You can also assign User who can access the HDD.

It becomes nearly silent, so I would guess that it spins down. Don't know it for a technical certainty.

This doesn't answer your question, but in the past using Back to My Mac I've been able to access the external hard drives connected to my mini at home, including the disk my TM backup image is on. Time Machine would try to run an automatic backup, but would fail when trying. However, I was on a very slow internet connection, so I'm not sure if the problem was that it's not possible (in which case it should have known better than to try) or if the connection simply timed out.

I would think bridge mode is better to set up than WDS...

As revealed in an AppleInsider article in Jan, the previous gen Time Capsule could not saturate a gig-E ethernet connection. Is there any info on whether this new one can?
