Suppose Apple were to introduce a mac with a x86 CPU as well as a PPC....

You mean like the 6100/66 DOS?

I think that's already been mentioned.
  • Reply 903 of 1761
Thats it, I believe the closest apple will ever get to porting to x86 is if they put the x86 into their machines

This thread is the only thread thats actually going full circle in ideas... Soon we won't be expecting anything much from Apple (around about post no.1100) so Monday will be a surprise whatever. Cool

Sorry, the best you'd get is new QuickTime 6 (+ Cocoa Bits) both for Mac, Windows, *nix. And new Quicktime/cocoa-based media applications which are created with Mac Dev Tools but compiled for all OSs.

Tasty and streamable... sounds interesting doesn't it.

EOL means it's been officially discontinued. "at the end of its life" is a phrase we commonly use for something that's getting really old and damned better be replaced very soon.

Has anyone seen the new thinksecret article? Apple execs praising spymac for taking the focus off the real announcements... hmmm.... another piece of evidence for the Apple Plant conspiracy theoriests.

Anyone see Spymac's response to the ThinkSecret article? Pure comedy!

Are all new iProducts going to be designed in the same style as iBook/Pod do you think?

It all could start to look a little ghostly/clinical. I guess 2001:A Space Odyssey feel aint too bad, but give me a real brushed aluminium Pda any day!

Anyone have any thoughts on the handwriting recognition that is supposed to be coming to OS X? Is that supposed to be coming very soon? Could that be part of this whole show or is that a ways off as well.

There is no way in hell that Apple is going to NOT release PowerMacs sub the 1GHz level. I would think that Apple knows that buying joing the fray -- in creating all this hype -- that they can't possibly untouch the PowerMac line.

    It's going to be either 1.2, 1.4, 1.6GHz G4s or G5s. Plain and simple.

New case? Who knows. But I would venture to say that 1.2, 1.4, 1.6 GHZ Power Macs are as assured as there are going to be iMacs at the show.

Further, I don't think that the new iMac will have a G4 processor in it, because then they'd have to significantly update the PowerBook to bring it up to stature.

Well another six hours til the next Apple slogan. I can't wait to see what it says!

Sigh. I wish I was as optomistic as you, but 1.6 GHz G4s? Where is this coming from? Doubling the clock speeds? We don't even know if the Apollo is ready at all, and we're already talking about scaling to 1.6 GHz?

1.6GHz is pushing it. They are not going to almost DOUBLE in clock speed over 6 months...

It would be very optimistic to say that there will be a 1.4 GHz chip on monday, anything more is crazy (unless of course Apple pulls a rabbit out of its hat and the G5 and its 10 stage pipeline comes out)

This is baseless because the powerbooks will be refreshed at MWTKO. Also, who cares if the iMacs are faster then the PBs? if you want a fast desktop, get a tower. As long as the iBook isn't faster then the PBs, there shouldn't be a problem...

The iBook could be at 667 MHz at the end of the keynote Monday, but Apple is still limited to not pushing it above the Power Book G4. The iMac, on the other hand, does not have this restriction.
  • Reply 917 of 1761
I wouldnt be bothered that much if apple cant make 1ghz as long as they can compensate for this with other hardware or chips...

Hardware meaning extra optimized motherboard components etc

I'll bet that the number of posts in this thread (at keynote time) will be around the speed in megahertz of the New Power Macs (if new Power Macs are introduced).

geez... monday seems further and further away every time i check the clock...

why do i get the feeling that i'm not even going to be able to log onto any mac news or rumor site (or the webcast) until, like, 5p.m. EST with all this hype. ah well, i guess i can count on apple.com getting updated as of around 2-2:30 p.m. EST on monday. hell, the only reason i am going into work on monday is that i've got a massive broadband connection there, so quicktime will have a fighting chance...

i am also beginning to wonder if any of us have come anywhere close to what will be unveiled.
