I had NO IDEA that Apple would continue to hype MWSF with new slogans everday.

It sure did make the boards crazy, didn't it.

I only hope that Apple can live up to their hype.

I know it sounds weird that Apple may douple cpu speeds almost overnight, but here is what is weirder, but true:

Apple stayed at the SAME CLOCK SPEED (bacically) for over a year and a half!

Faster CPU have been ready for months. Now they ship.

Remember that we almost saw a 1.0 Ghz PPC at MWNY 01, but MOTO dropped the ball .

Now on page 24. And tonight, with 1000 posts seemingly set to fall faster than an Afgani city, the question becomes: will Apple's last pre-MWSF slogan drive the AI boards into a day long frenzy of passionate pre-show paranioa that sees us top not 1000 but 2000 posts before steve takes to the stage?

Just a few hours till the 11'th hour communique.

Anyone here superstitious? Perhaps we should start padding this thread to get that clock speed -- er, post count -- up!

    Well, I've done my part.

I can't believe I'm still reading this thread. I can't believe I'm still *posting* to this thread. I can't believe Fran still admits to starting this thread. (Just kidding. I'm jealous. I started a thread once. One person responded. They said, "yeah.")

Do anyone think Apple will tone down the hype now that they've got the press (and Mac users) in a feeding frenzy?

I am a longtime reader but I rarely post, so here is what is on my mind....

An iMac with detachable flat screen which also could be used as a wireless touch screen tablet. The base (or hub...) of the unit would be the wired connection point of everything. Your Processor, Ram, Ethernet, ect would be stroed in this thing. The base would also act as the recharging point of the screen and various iWhatever devices. This would be perfect for the educational market, especially if they use a wireless gigawire screen.....

I feel that Gigawire is a long distance version of Airport. My school district, the one that was seen in the latest iBook intro video (not telling because I don't want anyone to be fired or anything), has been working with Apple on a Digital Backpack style device. Basically a long range wireless web tablet that students could bring home and do there work on. The Gigawire trademark mentions networking and other communication forms. Apple has also been talking to the FCC about opening up some more public frequencies.... could this be a "Backstage Pass to the Future"?

Just think... cheap and small a web tablet the would have a long distance wireless connection (1 to 10 miles or more). Very little processing power would be needed, which consumes a very small amount of power, after all most of the processing could take place at the "hub" or a server. This would definately qualify as beyond the rumor sites.

Rack Mounted G4/G5 Servers could provide plenty of power to these devices from a school or office. Buy a classroom set of say 30 and then a central G4/G5 Hub for the entire class. A OSX Server can boot atleast 50 iMacs off of it (is true, shown at a previous keynote) so why not the capibility to run 30 or even hundreds of iTablet style devices!!

The Raycer deal was for the graphics technology to run on of these these things...

I haven't even begain with the thousands of other places this stuff could be used!!!

The product matrix will grow from 4 to 6 very soon i think...

    Tablet | iBook | Powermac G4/G5

    Hub | iMac | Powerbook G4

This is TRUELY what I think will happen!

    ------------------------------------

iMac with detachable web tablet style screen

    G5 Server/Pro Desktop

    G3/G4/G5 hub for standalone tablets

    Various i Devices

Lots of Programs for these devices

    No Powerbook/iBook Updates

I am kind of ranting now because I think I solved the puzzle

Please feel free to respond or ask questions.

(If my spelling or grammer is wrong sorry...)

Justin267 - You have nailed it. Just think of the embarassment to Bill Gates, after Steve shows this technology, he has to walk on stage at CES and show how inferior his Mira tablet is, and explain how he will charge millions to use it - only with Passport and Hailstorm.

A hard rain is going to fall on his parade. Go Mac!

I still think we are missing the "thing" that apple will show. They cant be shooting off over just LCD imacs and some more speed...

If they did not give this the mob would find jobs and hang him with a hocky puck mouse!

NO PDA in existence would encroach on the iPod. iPod is designed to be a very good MP3 player and that's it. iPod will probably get the obvious additions at some point: a mic and voice recorder. But it ends there.

Other devices will fill other tasks. They do not 'encroach' at all. Something no one selling PDA's right now really wants to admitt is that they are basically useless fo most people.

Newton (2 going on 3 years) may have been the only truly useful PDA. It was bigger than even PocketPC's, but you could write on it. It'd have a eal use for people who can't sit at a desk, or open up a laptop and type during a meeting/lecture etc. Because of space/clutter reasons. But if I could comfortably take notes on it, and record voice, bingo! Add a scheduler, decent word processing, and powerful database and you have a winner. But it has nothing to do with an iPod.

Bingo. That's what I believe apple would be thinking rather than PDAs too. Although Steve Jobs has said he isn't interested in PDAs this is a different market altogether.

I know for me a PDA doesn't have the funtionality and a laptop isn't such a viable solution (frequently I'm not at my desk or in an area where there isn't the option of using a laptop) but something along the lines of what you just mentioned and I would buy it.

nah, just check in the main future hardware thread listing, and it lists the number of replies (so if it says there are 999, that means 1000 posts have been made; the original starting post, and the 999 replies).

personally, i want the light to come up on stage, and stephen "dude, yer gettin' a dell" is talking to a mother and her teenage son in an apple store mock-up setting about coming over to the local best buy and checking out a dell, when steve comes over and beats the ever-living crap out of him.

    i can dream, can't i?
