Moderator Edit: Do not post links to stolen software. People work hard to write this stuff - if you can't afford it, don't use it. Any further infractions will see the emergence of the hammer.
I have only tried Acquisition a little, and never for Bittorrent. It was okay for the other stuff. But for an infrequent user, I think the biggest thing is that Acquisition costs money while Transmission doesn't. Transmission:
Is open source
Has a very clean, simple user interface, is a good OS X citizen as far as I can tell
Under active development, new versions often
Does little thoughtful things like auto-loads torrent files from your Downloads folder if you want it to
Supports Growl notifications, UL/DL badging in Dock
Multi-platform (not available for Windows, but who cares )
I really don't have anything bad to say about it. It's not even version 1.0 yet but works great.
Gents - I can only assume that you're using P2P to transfer things like legal audio/video, podcasts, and legal software. Please be careful here as any talk or links to piracy will put me in a cranky mood.

Don't forget to EXCLUDE the folder for your incomplete torrent downloads from your Time Machine backup.
While you are downloading the temporary, incomplete file is likely to change every hour. So for a 1 GB file, Time Machine will create a 1 GB copy every hour, filling up your backup quickly with entirely unnecessary data.

It's a huge resource hog, but it does it's job fairly well.

Transmission is probably the nicest Bittorrent client on the Mac. Azureus is clunky but if you want to tweak every little detail, then it's the best.
Is Transmission better than Acquisition? Why?
