Apple stores due for Brits, Canucks, Swiss, US this week
Apple is expanding its international retail presence in force this coming weekend with all but one of six new stores opening outside of the US over the course of the next several days.
Switzerland is first and will see its two inaugural Apple stores open within a day of each other. Geneva's Rue de Rive will open its doors at 5PM local time on Thursday the 25th, while Zurich's Glattzentrum opens at 10AM the following day. Both will allow users to try iPhone 3Gs in store.
In Canada, Calgary's first store at Market Mall and Toronto's fourth at Fairview will both start business at 9:30AM on Saturday.
The home of trip-hop music in the UK, Bristol, gets its own store at Cabot Circus on Thursday the 25th with an unusual mid-day, 12:30PM opening. The store is the 19th in the country.
Lastly, a lone American store gets its debut on Saturday when the Royal Hawaiian opens its doors on Saturday at 10AM. It's the third in the island state and has earned minor infamy for a delay in getting rocks from the same Hawaiian island for its front face. Local legends forbid transporting rocks from other islands.

Legend has it that if you remove lava rocks from an island, you will be cursed by the volcano Goddess Pele. Before you laugh, there are piles of rocks next to the post office and national park ranger station of rocks mailed back by people who's fortunes went bad.
And of course if you are opening a retail store you respect local traditions.
However, the original stone had a pinkish cast. The rumor is that it was supposed to be lava and clearly was not. Why Apple just didn't go ahead with the original stone and open two months earlier, I do not know. They could have replaced the facing later. Most is on the side and does not affect either entrance door.
The rock used is not from Hawaii. Local lava rock does not include white flecks or shiny specks like mica. The lava comes straight out of the center of the Earth. Lava any where else in the World is crust pushed under the surface by plate tectonics.
