So - I hadn't really thought about this form factor as a possibility before, but maybe....
What's to hate about a touchscreen Apple netbook with CPU/GPU, SSD, and motherboard behind the screen so that the screen is detachable to act as a tablet?
I'm not talking about a wireless touchscreen; I'm talking about a tablet that docks into a netbook. The lower half "dock" is a backup battery, keyboard and multitouch trackpad, an HDD (for backup and for large media storage), a disc drive (CD/DVD/BluR), and a plethora of extra ports. The tablet could charge from the base or through an additional charging port. Naturally, the tablet could function in landscape or portrait mode when detached.
This would incorporate/allow for concepts like this patent as well as providing a real workable tablet. Students could carry just the tablet part to class for taking notes (a stylus probably wouldn't be necessary if Apple used concepts from this patent), but if they needed to write a research paper they could snap the tablet into the base, fold it up, and carry it to the library like an ordinary (albeit touchscreen) netbook.
SSD and touchscreens are both pretty expensive, but not prohibitively so. With this setup, you are looking at an Apple Tablet (every Apple geek's nerdgasm) with full notebook capability. Priced sub-$1000, these things would sell like mad. Applications for students, graphic designers, audio/video editing, and business.
What's not to love?
Don't have a heart attack, Ireland.
Note: No, I don't seriously expect this Tuesday to come out with something this fabulous. But the ultraslim stuff they release on Tuesday could provide a step towards such a "Macbook Touch" at MacWorld.
Having seen the latest case design leaked pictures, I have concluded the following:
We're looking at a dual range of MacBooks despite the similarities between the two case designs
Screen sizes will stay constant at 13.3", 15.4' and 17.0" so new 16:9 screen format
Predict total of 12 SKUs with three options for each of MacBook, MacBoook Air, MacBook Pro 15 and MacBook Pro 17
Standard RAM of 2 and BTO RAM of up to 6 GB
Definitely looks thinner (20mm?)
Top half of case looks as if it has been cut from a single aluminum block suggesting CNC laser cutting process (the brick)
Ports: MacBook: Magsafe, Ethernet, USB x 2, Mini DVI, plus circular hole for new docking system; macBook Pro 15 gains Firewire 400/800; MacBook Pro 17: as per 15 but gains 3rd USB as before; Air: same as today. (Mystery slot is HDMI on 15 and 17)
Bluray option on Pros
256 GB SSD option on all models at next revision, possibly sooner
No glass trackpads
Big surprise for tomorrow could be new LED Cinema screen displays including versions that double as a docking station.
Some people are saying the Apple invite graphic is actually a picture of the rumored glass trackpad, the question is... What keyboard would you use! LOL
Edit: This is a funny post (you're suppose to laugh out loud). It's my way of commenting on how ridiculous a glass trackpad would be.

I was searching for some more mockups and found these posts that unaccurately state no glass trackpads.
I suppose when your POV is to mirror the main screen or add an additional keyboard to the trackpad I can see why an visual output trackpad is ridiculous.

Er...unaccurately seems an inaccurate way of conveying that they were wrong.
I guess the concept here is using it without powering on the laptop. It's nice in that it can "project" a movie onto the main LCD without firing up the rest of the laptop. Otherwise, I'd prefer to have an iPhone and a lappy with a "always charging" USB port.

That is what I was talking about last year. It just seems like a natural projection. But I conceive a much useful feature set than adding a 2nd keyboard or playing a small movie to save the battery. I think it can add to your productivity by offering some things that you just can't get from a QWERTY keyboard and mouse. A tablet would be able to do these things, and more, but then you lose the use of a physical keyboard and have to use part of your screen as a trackpad.
Comments
Maybe even some dock connector...

If they were to be released on Tuesday, when would shipments start arriving in stores?
Does Apple typically release laptops the day they're announced, or do they wait a little?
I want one soon!
Any info on release dates would be great.
Thanks!!!

Which is why I italicized 'un'.

Well, I didn't think you couldn't spell inaccurate corrrectly. I just thought it was odd.
