Agreed. Colors are so 20th century.

    Key Lime and Tangerine. Together.

    That would rule.

    Really.

MacMinute was the first site to introduce doubt into my mind. If MM is right we shall lose many to Wintel. So, I expect:

    866Mhz, 900Mhz, 1000MHz 15''LCD iMac at $999, $1299, and $1499, respectively.

1.3GHz, 1.4Ghz, and 1.6Ghz G5s. Apple's hype has really made me believe this.

I agree completely. It's not like the G3 is the Pentium III and the G4 is the Pentium 4. The G3 is like a Pentium 2, it's old, it has served its purpose and it needs to go.

I used to think that too. Must be at least a G5 and a good cheap LCD iMac. I'm not thinking that any more. Maybe Apple doesn't read the UBB here or anywhere. Maybe they are pretending that there are no G5 rumors? Who knows how deep they dig into the Mac rumors? I'd love to be wrong but I feel like Apple thinks their GHz PowerMac G4 is "beyond" and their Ghz iMac LCD G3 is "beyond".

    Expect nothing.

We need G5's! I mean, sure, Photoshop and all those 'apps' are plenty fast on todays G4's, but what about window resizing? Window resizing, people!

I'm starting to think that Steve Jobs has lived the MHz lie for so long that he's actually starting to believe his own propaganda. He really believes that a Powermac is faster than a 2 GHz Pentium 4....and I wouldn't be surprised if deep down inside, Jobs believed that even a midrange iMac is faster than a Pentium 4. The guy's not right.

That sounds good but do you really think Moto can get their act together enough to produce fast G4s for iMacs and PowerBooks and also G5s? I expect them to screw it up like the did the G4. That's not to say IBM would do any better with the G3 but if Moto can't hack it perhaps IBM can.

I wouldn't expect 2GHz Pentium 4's to remain the competition for long, either. <a href="http://www.amddiyoc.com/adol/3g/3000GHz.htm"; target="_blank">This site</a> has a 2.2GHz Northwood overclocked to 3GHz. This means that newish Intel cpus are at least capable of hitting that speed, possibly far beyond.

"MHz myth" or not, 3GHz is fast, and a G4 running at 1GHz won't be something that would blow me away.

Moto doesn't fab most of their chips anymore.

Powermacs aren't going to sell for long with this sort of competition. 1 GHz powermac, vs. a 3 GHz Pentium, and the pentium box is $1200, while the GHz Powermac is $3500. What a joke.

    Apple is doomed.

If the specification are right and that the PowerMac line tops at 1Ghz it will be a terrible news especially after all the hype.

I'm a truly mac fan, but if the Powermac would not carry drastic improvement such as DDR, faster bus and Clock speed beyond 1.2Ghz, I think that my very next puchase will be an Athlon.

Don't get me wrong I love Apple as much as everyone here, but Apple needs to come up with better machines right now.

The actual specifications are a shame especially with those tag prices.

Far beyong the rumors site they said.. I hope so for their own sake

    HA!

    "Apple is doomed."

I love AI. Nowhere else in the world is there such a high concentration of manic-depressed souls, and we all feed off one another. We take all of this too seriously, too personally.

I think that these machines are secondary to the Expo announcements. It won't bring peace and goodwill towards man, nor will it iron your shirts, but it will be different.

For some reason those close to the info know for sure we've beaten 1Ghz, but no one knows where we go from there. I've read it dozens of times in the rumor pages, and heard the same thing confirmed by employees at the Sac plant.

So why does everyone know we're at a gig? What are they all looking at?

The manufacturing runs yields may determine, right up to the day of the show, what speeds they'll come out at, and management is gambling on Motorola again...

WTF today ???? Please take a rest and go see a movie with your girlfriend or wife...

we are waaaaaaay too tired !

I've just finished a newsletter today on my dual 800 and take it to my service bureau and you know what... when i have talked to the guy who is scanning huge photos (100/day) on a scitex eversmart... he don't see the need to buy a G4 ! He has a B/W G3 @ 400 mhz !!!! in fact two other G3 @ 350 are ripping files to two agfa accuset 25 & 44 and to an agfa sherpa !!!!!

This IS his business and a GOOD one... he didn't know that Apple will announce a new iMac nor a G5 or better G4 on monday... and in fact i never show him an iPod... i'll give him for workin' home a PowerBook Ti 400 and he don't see the need of it !!!!!

    <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

so maybe we are just geek after all <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />
