You should come live in Australia, all four of the networks that have iPhone's here have good reception and dropped calls don't exist unless you go outback in the bush, there the only thing that works is satellite.

    My phone calls are fine.

No seriously. I want one so bad so we can all be on the same plane. I inquired last week how much my cancellation fee would be, etc. Now it's only a matter of getting in that line and pulling out the plastic fantastic. When is AT&T expected to upgrade the network? I hear Sept- I could put up with crappy calls for 2 months. This new iPhone rocks- has all the features I've been writing about (save for the compass) for the last 2 years. Apple has listened.

Also you are kind of contradicting yourself- if the issues were worked out early in the software cycle then AT&T has always had the issues not just "now".

The issues on Apple's end I referred to are with minor OS updates to make the phone single power work better. AT&T has been building up there network since the before it was launched, as we've been stating, but the iPhone network usage is growing very fast.

Plus, my comment about dropped calls is because I'm now in LA, where the population is dense and there are valleys and hills and buildings to contend with. I've had 2 dropped calls and 3 calls that simply didn't connect right when dialing since arriving here last month. Not really a big deal and surely not an issue with the 3GS itself as this also happened with the 3G, but like areas of SF and NYC and other cities, I've been in one of those troubled areas of LA.

My advice to you: Don't buy an iPhone! You are under contract with your old phone, you have no evidence that AT&T has moved to the 850MHz spectrum in your area and, as we've discussed many times before, CDMA technology is inherently better than GSM technology in call quality. This is not so much the case with UMTS, but if you are not on 3G then you will notice the difference.

From what people say? Oh hai, you must be new here! Nice to meet you! Someone else must have been logged into your account! That someone never missed a chance to slam ATT and Apple's partnership with them. Did you hit your head?

No chance. You're not going to buy one. Never were never would. You're just faking so you can make up some terrible thing that will happen to it someday.

Has AT&T issued any indication as to dates as to when this will be completed? I thought I heard Sept but maybe that is the MMS rollout date.

Funny how turn two dropped calls into complaining. Are you aware how very little time it takes to call back, how many calls and how data usage I have likely gone through in that month and how low the number 2 is. I'll give you a hint, I've made a lot more than 2 calls in the last month.

No for real- my 1 1/2 year old Verizon phone is beginning to stall and I thought this would be the time for me to switch over. The NYTimes Pogue review sold me. He said the phone is finally where it should be. But now you are all complaining about its reception? I don't understand?

Call up AT&T in your area. This isn't flipping a switch for the whole US when some tech sitting in an office decides to get off his fat ass, this stuff is done on a per tower basis. Your area could be done now or it might be a lot longer than September. Don't trust any company set timelines, they don't have to follow them if they don't want to.

Find someone with an iPhone or buy one and then test the areas you traverse before calling Verizon or returning the iPhone and canceling that account within 30-days.

2 calls? How would I know it was 2? You said -

In fact, I've had more call issues since getting the 3GS, but since I'm in a new area that is hardly telling.

That would insiuate many more than "just 2".

Exactly, the PHONE is finally at a stage where the HW is fast enough to smoothly run that shrunken desktop OS and all its frameworks. Because of that there are now features like video recording and voice control. There is even enough spare RAM to potentially have background apps. I say potentially, because RAM is only one aspect to consider.

The issues with the carrier are on-going and will continue to be on--going. This applies to all carriers! If your area doesn't have coverage for a carrier then you shouldn't choose that carrier. That won't change, neither will the fact that CDMA is inherently has a better voice algorithm than GSM (2G). This is the stuff we've been saying for years now, but I think now that you are warming up to the iPhone and AT&T you have switched to only seeing the other end of what we've been saying. There are pros and cons with all things. This will not change!

Pardon me if I'm mistaken but isn't AT&T supposed to finally fix the network this year to alleviate rthis issue once and for all? I believe you had said that in the past.

What do you mean? My intentions are honorable. The phone is ready for prime time. Don't tell me the network is the same- it's hampering my decision!

I really can't believe you're addressing him as if he's asking serious questions.

I am asking serious questions. Why do you think otherwise? This is the best iPhone/value ever issued by far. Why wouldn't I want one?

You're correct, I made mention of the exact number in another thread. It was 2 dropped calls and 3 calls that didn't connect when dialed the first time. Like I said, not a big deal, but I was the problem area of LA.

Well wonderful we got Snow leopard which is coming out now and these plug-ins are released. I think develoment efforts should be pooled toward developing for OPEN-CL.

So I have to purchase a $1500 video card to use these. I understand this but I own a Nvidia 285..... and I'm really surprised that this card cannot be implimented to work as well.

They've made mention of it, but life it's all or nothing. The whole country won't magically be 3G on 850Mhz with HSUPA by September. Using several factors they will determine which towers get serviced first. Your area may be complete or it may not. There are too many variables to make a blanket statement with any assuredness. Even if they did resolve issues in your area, it's still a cat and mouse game if the iPhone (and other phone sales) are growing faster than they build up their network.
