Gawker didn't pay for the prototype -they paid for some pictures - the freelancer paid for the prototype - which is secret as defined by "lying around in bars".
Bring it on! It's popcorn time!
Wow, wow, wow! Easy there cowboy! Are you writing from a parallel universe? Because in this universe the story is different!
No, because your are disrupting the thread with too many posts, all completely rude and antisocial. Group think, ie government is what makes laws which you clearly have no regard for. You don't belong here, or anywhere else I'm thinking, which is probably why you are so distasteful and obnoxious.
Really? Am I accusing anyone of being "Tekstud"? (he's so tekstuddly!) Am I accusing anyone of being a child? I'm accusing people of speculating in legal matters which they don't have the slightest grip on true - but that's not rude - that's just pointing out a massive headache.
But I'm not agreeing with you so that's obviously wrong - oh so wrong.
i hope these clowns go to jail and apple sues them for millions.
they probably won't. it would be the ultimate feeding the trolls cause Gizmodo would try to find a way to spin it that they are being victimized.
And it's not like the site would have millions. Plus it would be hard to say what actual damages it caused since the stock has gone up like $15 since then and there haven't been any lost sales of that device since it's not out yet.
Certainly Apple might go along with criminal charges, just not a huge lawsuit. Let the bad karma points kill off advertising and any company wanting to give them review copies/units (Apple certainly won't anymore or invite them to any of their press stuff). That will hurt pretty bad.
Apple might also help Mr Powell with any suits he would care to find for emotional distress due to the unnecessarily exposure of his identity and potential libel/slander if he can raise any doubt as to the issue of his forgetting the phone v having it removed from his person.

While ignoring that you did the exact same thing repeatedly. While ignoring the details Gizmodo stated as fact etc etc ad infinitum ad nauseam
and that is why folks would be happy to see you banned.
What does that have to do with ANYTHING? They paid for a story and pictures from a freelancer, and he's the editor / owner of Gawker - but hey - nice twitter!
WOW - does anyone here even know how this all went down? And after having that accurate scenario info - you're going to apply law to it too?
You tend to make more assertions and derisive statements, and yet avoid responding to the issues raised by others.

Which issue? The random twitter pic by someone who pays for stories? The milk and cookies assertions? The people claiming I'm Tekstuddly? Yeeeeahhh I'm going to put in 100 words for all of those stellar issues.
Seriously, would you stop acting out. You have made your point. It has been dismissed as rubbish and no amount of reposting the same rubbish is going to change that.
@Dr.No - New York law (252 Personal Property) actually gives you a list of actions to follow when finding lost property that is thought to be in excess of 20 dollars value: 1) find the owner and return it; 2) hand over to the owner of where you found said property; and 3) turn in to the police. You have 10 days to do this and then the property sits for 120 days at the police station before being declared abandoned and you can file a claim.
Don't know CA law, but probably about the same - given everything about the neither the bar owner nor the police being notified.
Did NY ever have it? No. So how does that apply? Should they return the digital pictures?
No point backpedalling on your incorrect assertions when a personal attack will work better. But hey - the echo chamber is hot tonight!
Better than drugs!
Co'mon, you are just copy-pasting that replay from a post addressed to you in another story!
Can you substantiate your claims that my assertions where incorrect (regarding the story of the iPhone, not that you are Tekstud, that is obviously correct)?
if this is how he argues points, I'm afraid to ask how he was potty-trained.
At least you have mature arguments - no debate there. We now have a solid lock on the demographics here. Perhaps I can throw in some Pro-Wrestling references too. Don't want to overshoot the audience.

Is that the universe where the prototype went to NY or the universe where Apple picked it up in CA from the freelancer who sent the photos?
and why do you have the hots for him? I mean the sexual tension is palatable, ,,,:
Palatable???

Was it the same freelancer who bought it for 5k? FAIL.
palatable?

Clearly a freelancer.

Dr.No is obviously a troll. Stop feeding him.
He certainly is. He's also a perfect example of the phrase "a little knowledge is dangerous".

Oh and here's a bold word. That's an issue too.

Oh! there are more than two parallel universes? How many stories will we have to deal with before you get your meds today?

Yeah, they paid for just a story and pictures, not the actual device, that's why Jason Chen is holding said device in this video: http://gizmodo.com/5520164/this-is-apples-next-iphone
How dense are you? They paid 5k for a device, not photos and a story.
