What the difference between people lining up for an Apple day versus others waiting in line for special concert tickets, book signings, movies, shows, etc?
There was a very nice calm before the storm at Best Buy today. I was an early bird and got there at 1 which there was no indication of any kind of apple event. I walked around the store for an hour and a half and then listened to music in my car at 2pm and when I had returned they had made a line by register 12. There were only 3 people in line before me and we chatted for a good little while 3 hours to be exact however it almost flew by as more and more people had shown up for ipad 2 launch. By the time 5 O'clock rolled aroud the line had wrapped 1/2 way around the best buy store with a sea of heads floating in the middle and lost of blank expressions as to why people were waiting in line for something. My iPad 2 is syncing right now and I can WAIT !!!
Well they sold out at both local Mac retailers, the Walmart, Best Buy, And Target. I think they had about 10 each though.
I would only estimate sales this weekend of 300k. Unless the Apple retails stores have several thousand each
Based on how badly the online sales supply was and the pitiful retail supply anywhere but Apple retail stores I think its safe to safe supply will be tight for looooong time.
I got to the Target in 7 Corners at 4:45 and was informed they only had 10 and the line had 11 people in it! I got to the Clarendon Apple store at 5pm and they were opening the doors... there were about 500 people wrapped all the way around the mall. Zoo. Maybe sunday?
Yes, but watching morons wait in line when I simply purchased my movie tickets in advance, with no extra fees, and pick them up at an automated kiosk thus saving me 30+ minutes of my time is not much different.
At least it didn't look like they camped out there a week in advance.
They didn't right?
I mean, can that guy with the iphone, macbook air and whatever else keep himself away from anything apple or electronic for 5 bleeping minutes?

Waiting out on the sidewalk for hours with all your old Apple gear to get the new Apple gear you are excited about is a bit nerdy and eccentric, but what about people who sit around in their mom's basement for hours posting angry haterade about products they don't care about?
What kind of eccentric nerd are you Joe, and what basis do you have to talk about other peoples' proclivities? At least these people in line are having fun and joking around, rather than spewing bile about something they don't even like.

Just got back from the Willow Bend mall near Plano TX. At least several hundred people waiting in line at the Apple Store there, it was 5:30 and the line wrapped most of the length of the mall itself. I would say it was at least 500 people waiting, no joke.
I just can't help but thinking if its that crazy there, imagine what the Cube store is like in NYC right now. I was there for the original iphone release, and that was pretty nuts.
Yeah, we all know that there was an earthquake that happened in Japan.
And we all know that the iPad won't be available in Japan for another couple of weeks, so your comment makes no sense at all.
His comment could be based on something called empathy, which would be a foreign concept to you. Maybe he's in San Francisco, thinking there could easily be buildings falling on the people in line there.
I take it you are in line in Manhatten fending off the homeless crackheads and scalpers you were worried about earlier. My sincere sympathies.

His comment was ridiculous, false, offensive and I see that it's now been deleted. And don't presume to know anything about other people's empathy. I actually know quite a few people who live in Japan.
And no, I'm not on line yet. I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet. I have plenty of time to make up mind. I have the whole night ahead of me.

Uh, one is limited and the other isn't.

Uh, movies and shows are not necessarily limited.

I LOLed, especially since I had just sent a friend the third pic where people are so happy to see food and water.
