    What I love about this in concept is that for the longest time, companies like Cisco and Microsoft would tout how they use their own technologies (i.e., eat their own dog food) to achieve all sorts of unfair advantages in the areas of innovation, agility, forecasting, and bottom line profits.



    Now, putting aside the fact that both Microsoft and Cisco were found to be a bit of an emperor wearing no clothes when this narrative proved more truthy than truth, Apple is in a GREAT position to demonstrate the power of this new wave when integrated properly.



    After all, their whole operating philosophy is built around vertical integration and solutions/outcome orientation.



    Will be interesting to see how far they go.

    If the only change for all this hype is that they're giving Apple employees iPad 2s to work with, that's really underwhelming. There's gotta be more to it than that.

    they will integrate automated vending machines into their stores.

    buy products and make contracts (automated signature -> that is what the ipads are for) without standing in line or wait for service.

    there are already existing vending machines only for apple products at air-ports around the US.

    the vending machine will be re-designed and integrated into the apple stores.

    eventually with a store window pane integration of the display and product release for buying their products 24/7 -> without any special needed service employee..

    that would be my next step if my name was S. J.

    I expect nothing in the stores for the 10th anniversary. Jobs has said on more than one occassion that he never looks back, doesn't care about the history of Apple, doesn't care about museum exhibitions of old computers, etc. If one only looks forward, then an anniversary doesn't mean anything.



    And as for the poster who thinks that Apple retail is some kind of left-wing conspiracy, that's the funniest thing I've ever heard. Apple retail is a perfect implementation of capitalist mass-marketing. And Apple retail clerks do wear a "uniform" - it's just not the uniform of your choice. You obviously equate "standards" with the wearing of a traditional suit. Apple equates standards with a high-quality customer experience and sales success. Which do you think better fits the capitalist ideal? As for the design of the Apple stores, you can love the design or hate it (I happen not to like the concrete floors), but it has absolutely nothing to do with left-wing or right-wing politics or capitalist or socialist ideals.

    I think you probably read something into the comment to include something that wasn't expressed. He didn't say you couldn't sit down with it, just that if you must sit down to use it then you're doing it wrong. You do have the choice though. Does that make sense?

    Don't know if it's still true... when we owned computer stores, carpeting was a good investment -- it was less expensive to clean and maintain than any of the alternatives. And, yes, the acoustics were better and the carpeting provided a luxurious ambiance.

    These iPad 2s are being used for internal training and morning briefings on how the company/store is doing.



    This allows more employees to continue training and keep up with breaking news. That way you (the customer) gets more accurate information.



    And I don't think 20 to 40 16GB Wifi iPad 2s not being available per store really makes a big difference when each store is beginning to receive nearly 100 iPad 2s a day.

    Apple waited till they no longer had lines outside of there stores each morning before allocating these iPad 2s for employee use.



    I Apple had given each of there employees iPad 2s a month ago while you were not able to get one, that would be a different story.



    But If your crying because you can't get a 16GB Wifi Black iPad 2, go order one online and have if shipped freely to your door in a week or 2.

    Or just shut up.

    It's not so much that iPad 2s are being used internally. It's the training applications that the number of iPad 2s allow.



    And if anyone has been in an Apple Store since the release of the iPad 2, then they would see the use of iPad 2s in the store to greet customers, check them into there One to One or Genius Bar appointments.

    I was just in my Apple Store this week for a Genius appointment. I noticed some employees using iPad 2s. At least one with the Smart Cover folded into a triangle around back to hold it and at least one with a 3rd-party cover that you put your hand through.



    I also asked if they had iPad 2s. They had all WiFI models, all Verizon models and at least one size of the AT&T models. They are oddly secretive about giving too many specifics. But I distress, the point is they have 16GB WiFi models which is what I?d expect employees to be using.
