What good is it all if AT&T caps you at 2GB or 200MB of data? Will the new network technology allow them to raise the caps?

"Allow"? You're acting as though the caps are some sort of real limit that AT&T can't surpass. They exist because AT&T refuses to expand the network. They do it to get more money out of you.

    Well, 200MB is too little.

But I'm hard pressed to get to 2GB data. And that includes watching trailers all the time on youtbe and stuff. Of course I do use my WiFi connection whenever I am home...so...I dunno.

The use of networks has become a "need" for everybody. So...it makes more since to charge people more. It's a business. As long as it doesn't get ridiculous and creates jobs, I'm fine. Oh, and Sprint does this too as the have recently added data caps.

Tell me a link other than a from a blog run by a fanboy if you are that sure of iPhone is HSPA+

    1) If iPhone is HSPA+ wouldn't you think Apple would have stated on the 4th or at least list it on their web site.

    2) All apple is doing is pushing the max for HSDPA/HSUPA to 14.4 by the way of have antennas that is it full stop.

3)If you want to dream on go ahead I not going to stop you but if the world to believe you prove it.

Who am I, if not 'everybody'?

I don't give a flying frick about mobile data. If AT&T really wants to lighten the data load on their network, SELL ME AN IPHONE WITHOUT A DATA PLAN.

I will buy THREE BRAND NEW iPhone 4S from ANY carrier that allows me to purchase an iPhone with data to/from the device blocked and no required data plan purchased. RIGHT NOW. TODAY.

I will even buy them at full price if you whiners (read: the telecoms) don't think you'll get your precious subsidy back from the decades of subscribership you'll get from me for allowing me to buy a dataless iPhone.

    I mean, COME ON.

This post made me smile. But ATT wants to cover the subsidy costs. Technically, I can sign up with ATT right now, get the iPhone 4S for $200 and cancel my contract. ATT LOST money. So I think that's one way they get it back for paying so much out.

Yes, ATT is a money hog....and you dont' have to stick with them. They have competitors. But again, the goal of the company is to make money.

$70 first month bill, $325 ETF.

    200 + 325 + 70 = 595.

If you don't wait for an entire month, you have to give back the phone.

    As Appleinsider previously noted:

AT&T has engineered its network so that most users' experience typical downlink throughput rates of 700 kilobits per second (Kbps) to 1.7 Mbps, with bursts over 1 Mbps. Typical uplink rates are 500 Kbps to 1.2 Mbps.

If the network is designed for these speeds, is it really 4G? Yes Im sure they can hit the 14mbps over the air, but once it hits the landline at the cell site with a T1 those speeds wont be seen.

    Nope, it's not 4G, it's ShitG.

I guess solipsism was referring to your claim that only 28Mbps-> is HSPA+, which is not the case. If you want to talk speeds, the first speed increase is at 21Mpbs.

A phone that can only do 14.4, but offer other R7 enhancements (CPC, Voice over HSPA, FDPC, FRLC etc.etc.) would technically be HSPA+. But to market such a device as HSPA+ is borderline dishonest.

The chipsets that do those HSPA+ capabilities would often also do 64QAM and/or MIMO, which would provice the speed increase, so it seems unlikely that 4S would be HSPA+. It doesn't mean it isn't. It just means that if I were to bet real money, the odds would favour plain HSPA and I'd put my money there. Then again I wouldn't place the bet in the first place.

BTW do you work for Voda? Your post seemed like a vodafone marketing press release that sounded like Voda was leading the pack with it's HSPA+ process. Quite a few operators out there have already deployed HSPA+ and Voda is still in the process of testing and evaluating?

    Hello Jarkko,

I just don't like people quoting wrong information. iPhone 4S is an OK device with HSPA capabilites HSPA max speed is 14.4 and Apple correctly say this on their web site. All this article and posts are due to the fact some AT&T Marketing person wrote a letter try to miss sell to public.

I don't work for Voda but I search and found reputable information about standards the info say they trailed HSPA+ during 2008 as over the pond GSM much more advanced than over there.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolved_HSPA

But over there T-Mobile have 50 cities with HSPA+ netowrks 21 or 42

As only device I seen to support in US Samsung S II

    Regards,

    KK

Why couldn't the 4S have 21mbps HSPA? That's what the Galaxy S2 has.

Where? All I see is stock iPhone imagery, which is all they've ever been allowed to use.

Because iPhone 4S is only a HSPA device and Galaxy S2 HSPA+ device.

But until the networks update more of their base stations to support HSPA+ it is no point it as latest standards tend to use more power so from apple point of view if it no use for the user why should it drain the battery of users that why they tend to has bit lower spec. Samsung on the other hand what to tempt users any advantage they can get with latest and greatest.
