f*ck the braves. they're the only team i hate almost as much as the yankees and dogs...

Giants gotta win 2 straight now to advance in the playoffs. Manny Ibar really blew it yesterday with just 2 pitches.

Dusty Baker's contract is up at the end of this year, and I wonder how much he is really needed. He seems to be able to get the Giants TO the playoffs, but once they are they, they fumble. Dusty's postseason record is 2-9.

Livan Hernandez is 5-0 in postseason play, and he's pitched a few really good games recently, so hopefully he'll do good today.

Go Twins! Yeah, an "easy win for the A's in game five." They almost came back there at the end, and for some reason the Twins put Eddie Guardado in, but they won anyway.

I have high hopes for the Twins against the Angels. It'll be a good match up, that's all I can say now. It would be funny if there was a redux of the '91 series, Braves versus Twins.

I sure hope that doesn't happen. I wouldn't mind seeing the Twins in the World Series, but I absolutely hate the Braves so I don't wanna see them in.

Not without controversy though. Worst. Call. Ever. Tejada grounder to the second baseman...throws to the short-stop for the force-out at second...the ball hits the glove, bounces out in a millisecond, falls to the ground, and they call the runner out anyway? ???

The As went with the wrong rotation too. The put Hudson up for two games when he should have played the third game. If you know the Twins can't hit left handed pitchers, and you got a left handed Cy Young candidate, why the hell do you put him in game 3 with no chance of pitching more than once. It should have been Mulder, Zito, Hudson, Mulder, Zito. Instead it was Hudson, Mulder, Zito, Hudson, Mulder. Mulder didn't pitch a bad game. It was 2-1 Twins when he left the game.

At least the Giants are up 7-0 right now. Sheesh. Oakland gets two World Series caliber teams snubbed within one year's time. Last year the Raiders got the bad end of a ridiculous play call in the game against the Patriots. This year, it's baseball.

Thank goodness the Raiders are unstoppable this year. And thank goddness the Niners steamrolled the Rams. First time in 6 match-ups they've come away with a win against the Rams.

Oh here we go again with the whole, 'Patriots weren't worthy' speech saying how the Raiders were 'cheated' or the Steelers were 'cheated' or the Rams were 'cheated' like it was some conspiracy. The Patriots won- get over it. Can't New England have a team that wins for once (Celtics excluded)?

As for the play at second, yes it was a bad call, but who knows what would have happened? Had he been called safe, he still might not have scored and the HR might have been solo later in the game. It was a bad call, yes, but it wasn't questioned by any one so it must not have been a big deal to either the runner or manager, otherwise there would have been at least some words.

So Twins- Angels sounds pretty good to me. I sure wouldn't have picked either team to make it this far at the beginning of the year.

Fran441, everyone but the Patriot fans last year knew how bad a call that was. Brady was obviously bringing the ball down and not passing it. It shouldn't be surprising the Raiders fans are still bitter about it.

And in baseball it's pretty much impossible to get a call reversed unless it's something like a checked swing with an immediate appeal. No use getting riled up and wasting energy. At that point, it would have been 2 men on and one out with some good batters coming up. It was a horrible call that really did change the complexion of the entire game.

You neglect to mention that the Twins were on the short end of the exact same call earlier in the game, in the third inning. One out, Le Croy on first, Hunter grounds to Tejada, who throws to Ellis at second. Replays show the ball hits the heel of Ellis' glove and bounds away. Ump calls Le Croy out anyway, and next batter Mientkiewicz grounds out to end the inning. Gotta hand it to Ellis for his nice acting job going through the motion of throwing to first even though he lost the ball well before that.

Bottom line today: Radke outpitched Mulder. If you want to hang the goat's horns on somebody, hang them on Miguel "MVP" Tejada, who went 3-for-21 for the series.

Paid attendance at the Coliseum: 32,000 and change. The ESPN announcers spent a whole half-inning talking about all the empty seats.

Bring on the Angels! I like the Twins' chances since they have home-field advantage.

Unfortunately Denny Hocking, who played so well today, broke a finger when someone stepped on his hand in the traditional postgame pileup on the field right after the game.

Oh, I didn't see that since I tuned in just before Mulder and Radke were taken out of the game. Too many sporting events to watch in the Bay Area today.

I had to switch between The Niners, Raiders, As and the CART Grand Prix of Miami. Then I had to watch the Giants game after that.

The Yankees lost so I have no reason to watch. I was so happy to see them get eliminated in the first round I am satisfied with baseball for a long time.

God damn braves. Stranding 13 runners. I should learn. What's worse: constant disappointment in the regular season (cubbies or red sox) or this shit that we brave fans need to put up with?

edit: I'm glad Barry's going to have a chance to get to a world series. After what we did to him in 1992, he's due.

OK, let's see everyone's LCS predictions:

AL: Twins in 7 (of course)

    NL: Cards in 6

Any predictions are unsafe, so I'm not even going to bother. The Twins make a nice story, but I think the Angels make an even better story. They came out of nowhere this year, and they've had a longer drought than Minnesota. They also shamed the Yankees, which is a plus.

Most people would lean toward the Cardinals, but Rolen might not even play, and he's *the man* in that ball club. The Giants are also pumped...they just slayed the team with the best W-L record in the National League.

Nevertheless, you can't lose with any of these four teams. They've all got great stories this season.

Ah, how could I forget? What a great season that was. Too bad they ran out of steam from that race. (I remember the last day of the season vividly b/c it was the day I first tore my ACL. 12-1 Dodgers )

Yes, it was a bad call but it didn't win the game for the Pats. They still had to take advantage of the opportunity. The Raiders seemed to give up after that point. I didn't understand that at all.

I can't believe the way these playoffs are unfolding. The teams that are winning just seem to have more heart. I don't know who to root for now. I suppose it should be the Twins. Their AA team plays in New Britain. Or maybe I shouldn't. It seems that when it comes to baseball, if I root for a team, they lose - the Sox, the A's... <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />
