This is a step in the right direction, but Apple should simply be bricking any jailbroken devices.

I can afford to buy all of my apps. I have so many apps, that they all don't even fit on my current iPad.

Jailbreakers have the mentality of a Fandroid, and that's what they should be using, an Android device.

Except that I buy Cydia apps. Not interested in piracy. Put the paint roller down.

To be fair though, you have to say the same thing about carriers and manufacturers when you buy an Android based phone. They prevent you from getting a pure Android experience with their overlaying UI's and prevent you from updating Google's OS... Unless of course you root, but then isn't that the same as iPhone users that jailbreak?

Are you saying you've never done anything like that?

Those are they guys that I was talking about. They hurt the entire community.

I've never pirated an app. I've purchased many jailbreak apps and tweaks that enhance the performance of my 4S.

And I could say the same exact thing about you, you are the one who brought up this subject after all.

You are clearly a person who is not very enlightened and your views also seem rather simplistic and unscientific. And yes, I obviously would rather have any future kids of mine occasionally using a harmless substance like marijuana instead of a much more dangerous, addictive substance like alcohol which kills people every single day. Just because something happens to be illegal at this moment in time, that doesn't necessarily make it bad. Do you not have a proper understanding of US history and the reasons behind why certain things are legal and other things are illegal? It's only a matter of time before it's fully legal in most States.

It seems as if your kids are in far greater danger than any hypothetical, future kids that I may ever have. One important thing that I'd teach my kids, is to be informed and to be able to think for themselves.

I don't doubt you, and I see that your reply is one of a few here where people mention that they jailbreak for various reasons but they don't pirate apps. I don't doubt those others either, but does anybody really expect somebody who does jailbreak and pirate to come here and admit it?

I don't know what the percentage is, and I guess there are no stats about it anywhere, and maybe the figure is lower than I imagine it is, but it's kind of hard to say, when there are no reliable stats to go by as far as I know.

Big deal. That's what some people said about Steve Jobs too, and look at what he accomplished. And no, I am in no way, shape or form comparing myself to Steve Jobs, I'm just saying that in the big scheme of things, it doesn't really matter what you or any other simpletons may think about me.

Add a phonetic first name or edit your nickname in your contacts. Spell it phonetically (Haygun).

And you have the mentality of a moose. It seems you have also forgotten how Jobs and Woz did a lot of pirating themselves. Same thing. Besides making a point that isn't really related to my post since I don't pirate.

I have been using Apple products since 1995 for audio work. ProTools and Logic etc. I would NEVER buy anything but Apple. I live in Japan and jailbreak for the app called TetherMe because Softbank doesn't let you tether iOS devices on one plan like they do in Canada. They are blood suckers.

There are little things you can do to your iPhone called Tweaks and most of them are actually free. eg. unlimited scrolling icons on the dock, tweaks that stop iTunes apps from sending Address Book contacts data to the servers of those iTunes apps etc. There are countless iTunes apps that send your contacts data to their servers for "whatever BS reasons".

My iPhone 4's home button is not in good shape because of almost two years of wear and tear. I have tweaks on my phone that totally free my from the home button JUST AS STEVE JOBS WANTED TO DO. One tap of the status bar and I'm at home. Two taps of the status bar and I'm app switching.

I have an account with Amazon and BUY everything from Cydia that has a price tag.

See the part that says, "package officially purchased"? Purchased means someone has paid money for a product. Maybe you missed that in economics class. So much for your theory Poindexter.

I paid for my iPhone 4, its damn near out of contract at this point and it is MY PROPERTY. If someone or a group of people want to hack it to do something cool, that is our right! now, that said, Apple absolutely has the right to disable it too, as the ios updates are their property, but hey, I have the right to not run the update if I know or suspect that it will interact negatively with my unsupported use. ...

Except in the case of Siri, enabling it on non-4S hardware is theft of services, so you don't have any "right" to do so.

EDIT: Seems you're quite adamant about "MY PROPERTY", not so much about other people's.

... is that everyone is assuming just because Siri might technically work with older devices that they have the right to use it with those devices.

Siri is a service and one that is sold as part of an iPhone 4S. Using it with non-authorized devices is theft of service.

I don't care of people jailbrake their phone to do whatever they want with it - provided they aren't using it to steal anything. And theft-of-service is still stealing.

If you want Siri, you've got to pay for it. It was not sold as part of the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad or iPad 2, so if you are using it with any of those devices, you are stealing.

    End of discussion.

YES! I can use it with my iPhone, then!

Kidding aside, you're absolutely right about this. Why people think they can just appropriate server time for free is beyond me.

You rule! I hadn't explored the contacts stuff yet so I didn't know that was an option. Very cool. Nice hearing my name correct again. At least she doesn't call me by my last name like tons of people do. (Kirk) Really annoying when my name is correct above in an email and they say "Thanks Kirk!" heh. Dumbasses.

It is kinda flaky though. It does not always use the phonetic spelling.

For texting Siri does not use the phonetic but email does.
