Schematics show expected thinner-bezel design of Apple's fifth-gen iPad
Design documents provided to AppleInsider show what case makers expect Apple's anticipated fifth-generation iPad will look like, with a thinner-bezel design matching the appearance of leaked components.
Case and cover manufacturers are said to be using the data included in the above image, which shows a fifth-generation iPad with much thinner side bezels than its predecessor.
The image suggests the next iPad will measure exactly 169.48 millimeters wide, shaving more than 15 millimeters off the width of the fourth-generation iPad.
The document also shows that the height of the device has been slightly reduced, from 241.3 millimeters in the current model to 240 millimeters in the alleged next-generation version.
Thickness of the next iPad is also expected to be reduced, going from 9.55 millimeters to 7.5 millimeters, the document claims. The image also shows a revised body design akin to the iPad mini, which debuted last year.
Aside from those changes, the new iPad is expected to be lighter than its predecessor, helping to make the 9.7-inch tablet more portable. But the main elements of the device, including the home button, forward-facing FaceTime camera, lock button, and the location of the headphone jack and microphone on top of the device are all expected to stay largely the same.
The design matches up with a plethora of leaked components that have appeared throughout 2013, also suggesting that Apple plans to make its next full-size iPad look like a bigger iPad mini. More recent parts have given evidence that Apple plans to adopt its new "space gray" shade, found with the iPhone 5s and recent iPods, to the fifth-generation iPad.
Apple is expected to hold a media event in October where the company will introduce both the fifth-generation full-size iPad, as well as a new second-generation iPad mini. That would follow last year's release schedule, when the company launched the first iPad mini and fourth-generation iPad in time for the holiday shopping season.

I'll be kind of surprised if the next full-sized iPad doesn't have Touch ID.
TimCook had surely Doubled Down the secrecy.
Is Apple now a country? ;-)

I don’t like it. I buy it, but I don’t like it.
Already printing their own money.
True that. The narrow bezel isn't helping anyone. It won't make it much lighter, it won't make you able to hold it in one hand like the mini in their ads and it will only be totally useless when using it in portrait orientation.
Indeed: I buy it, but I don't like it. Oh well, the 4GB iPhone is now a collectors item as well:

MY SHIP HAS FINALLY COME IN.
I'll wait for the 12" iPad in 2014

Easy to criticize. Can you do better? Can you be sure he didn't redouble their efforts?
You can sit in your chair and mock people who have accomplished sooooo much more than you. Or you can use your imagination to appreciate how amazing it is that there aren't more leaks given the number of contract companies and workers are involved.
The choice you make reveals the level of intellect you have.
I really hate leaks. Spoil all the surprise.

and a lot of people thought the iPhone 5 was 'too light'
Different jobs.
You point out the Mini is the 'one handed' iPad, and I do think the iPad 10" is being positioned more for the "I'm working here" crowd than the 'book reader and a cup of coffee' crowd.
if it is lighter, a couple ounces less, coupled with a more substantial edge make make it a lot easier to hold in a 'pinch grip', especially if just balancing on the table/lap while reading. (human hands work better holding slightly wider… I always felt the tapered back led to a bigger bezel as you wanted to grip closer to the flat… not the flat will be closer).
but I still need them to sell me something… anything… my iPad2 is begging to become my new Apple Remote.

Especially dimensions… too many 3rd parties need to get these, especially within (purportedly) a month of product release.
All that said, It's not beyond apple to 'distribute' 2 or 3 different dimensions to see where the leaks are...
Or have a separate document that says 'multiply all X dimensions by X.XX, Y, by Y.YY, and Z by Z.ZZ.'

and looking at the 5c announcement… I think the security around that release was very good. Yes, colors and dimensions came out… but parts, capabilities, product placement in the line… were all pretty much kept quiet until the 11:50 time check. This for a product that was going to ship in the 10's of millions just 2 weeks later.
Remember, Every Carrier, Every retailer, Every supplier, Every regulatory agency had to be told 'something' prior to release. 10s of thousands of people under NDA, some in countries where legal recourse is nonexistent (all penalties are business penalties).
Manufacturing has 200,000(more? less?) employees shoveling inputs and outputs of the process by the 1/2 million piece a day count.
hundreds of reviewers, testers, developers having their hands on varying levels of mockups and eventually 'GM' release.
To see a set of dimensions for case manufacturing partners surface a month prior to iPad release…. that's hardly anything (if this was a submarine, or a fighter jet, it may mean something… but a tablet… a tab…let. We're talking a Tab. Let. (channelling my inner Allan Iverson));-)
This isn't a leak… this is condensation.
I don’t like it. I buy it, but I don’t like it.
Classic! " src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />
Trusted source ? I ask because I know by a reliable source that the iPad 5 rear shell might be 7.9mm thick, without front panel... http://www.nowhereelse.fr/ipad-5-schema-85112/
There seem to be discrepencies in both articles. The nowhereelse article shows the iPad mini being thicker than the iPad 5 which can't be right. The appleinsider article lists the iPad 4 as being 9.55mm but apple.com lists it at 9.4mm.
The biggest change is the thickness. If 7.5mm is correct, that means 20% thinner which would be incredible. The result is an iPad that will likely be close to 25% lighter, about 500g or just over a pound.
