What do you mean by opt in? Am I asked when I first turn on the phone? Does the procedure tell me what data is being collected & what is being done with it if I opt in? What about Samsung's (or whoever) privacy options are they different? Does the os itself collect personal data?

If I don't use Google services what do I need a Google account for? One point, one of these 2 companies subverted users privacy settings to collect data & track user browsing habits on software they did not own...it wasn't Apple.

Apparently Apple stole some of these, got sued and paid out lots of cash to Creative.

You need a Google account to get software updates from Google Play, just like you need an Apple account to get updates from the App Store. Note that "software" here can include system components, such as the keyboard, which are actually modular apps updated through Google Play.

If I remember rightly, that was about the Artist > album > song hierarchical menu. Don't think there was anything else.

Exactly this, when you set up a Google account it gives you the option to collect location data. And Google Play store give you the option to use the data to send you recomendations. No, Android in itself don't collect data

I was answering the claim that if you don't use a Google account the smartphone is a dumb one but this is not true, you can install other stores and user other cloud services.

How do you know Android doesn't collect data? Does Samsung have it's own data collection policy & what makes Google a trustworthy company as I sad one of these 2 companies subverted users privacy settings to collect data & track user browsing habits on software they did not own...it wasn't Apple. Why would I trust any privacy policy from a company that would do what I just mentioned.

using your example why would you trust any company including Apple. As of yet Apple havent been found subverting user privacy settings. That doesn't mean they havent been in the past or will in the future..... Of course its all tin foil hat time.

As an Android user, I never visit sites like these, but this seemed interesting. Let's not forget that Apple products (mobile) are niche. Perhaps not in the US, but certainly outside.iPad Mini and iPhone 5C are released because of the market Android created.

No. Sorry. Now go back to never visiting sites like these.

iPhone's screen size and price make them niche.

I really don’t see how that’s relevant to the point you’re trying to make.

Half of all smartphones sold are iPhones. Despite a dozen companies with 300 models competing in the other half. Despite” its screen size, which, again, ~50% of the market has absolutely no problem with whatsoever. Half of the entire market is a niche?

Where? In your street? In case you mean US, didn't I say they're not niche in US? Yes I did.

Worldwide most Android phones sold are cheap, small screened junk.
