Very true. Nothing wrong with a respectful debate. You don't see many of those these days.
Right! I only noticed the other day just how many news sites have almost given up ... CNN for one ( spend most time on sites like Ars and The Verge I have to admit ... 'news' just depresses me). It became a race to the bottom on most blogs.

I did notice recently CNN turning off their comments section on articles. I'm finding myself less and less paying attention to the news. Now it's just basically Apple and sports news for me.
Must be nice to have the benefits of religion (celebrating Christmas, Easter, ect) and none of the responsibility (going to church, following church dogma, ect)
Or one can view it as having the benefits of religion (celebrating Christmas, Easter, etc.) without having to support its undesirable aspects (intolerance, narrow-mindedness, superior attitude, 'moral' license to kill those of different belief).
If you look at what's in writing, religion would be such a great thing if not for all the bigoted self-righteous people who profess it.

I'll take that as not being sarcasm, I don''t think it was anyway.
It is. Plus so many of the good ones being from far earlier times and borrowed along the path of history. Guilt isn't a concept in this context I have much knowledge of, I think it is intrinsic to many religions though. Possibly the word celebrate could be misconstrued too so i don't use it if I can help it. I have fun, eat and drink, share, meet old friends and family and so on.
Plus, this won't help in Apple's attempts to sell in the Middle East or to those whose religious views will now dictate they not buy Apple products.
Not at all. That's not how the well-heeled customers of the Middle East view Apple. They see Western tech couture. Do you think they boycotted Versace because Gianni Versace was gay?
Maybe this will piss off the Westboro Baptist Church, but don't tell me you're "concerned" about that too.
I'm not trying to criticize you. Actually I think its a pretty good deal to have all the fun and none of the responsibility
I guess personally if I didnt beleive in God I would feel a little weird observing Christian holidays.
One more question (not trying to be offensive) but have you ever been in a near death situation? Did you believe in a God then?
Yep I have. Ruptured colon, peritonitis ... three days before getting to an operating table. I even heard the surgeon tell my wife I might not make it ... great tact eh? lol
I remember looking up at the light above me and a mic hanging there ... and joking with the nurse that was that was where they'd 'call it ' if I croaked. My last thoughts were that my wife was fine and secure and I had no un finished things really and had had a great life. Then 9.8.7.6.5. .... nothing. It wasn't till several days later it actually occurred to me I hadn't had a single thought of which you speak.
By the way (and I say this just in humor really) if I were a Christian I'd feel weird holding pagan festivals purloined by early Romans to add to the new Christian calendar set up under Constantine. But that's just me ...
I don't understand how people don't consider abortion murder.
What if a pregnant women was beat up by a guy and there was a miscarriage? Would that not be murder? Please explain the difference.
That would depend on how far along she was in the pregnancy, but I find it odd that you're focusing on this collection of cells that could be even less than a few weeks old and not on the women beaten so badly as to have a miscarriage. I think that's a miscarriage of concern.
But that clump of cancer cells won't develop into a brain and heart and lungs.
So if abortion is NOT murder than would you be okay if a guy beat up a pregnant women and the fetus died? What would you call that? Would that just be simple assault?
So you're argument is now that the potential to be a human being is enough to call it murder, even though by your statement it does have a brain, heart or lungs at that time. You just lost the argument and Pro Lifers always walk right into that. With your line of thinking then you should never willingly waste a single sperm or egg by using contraception because each of those has the potential to developing into a brain, heart and lungs.
How about we care about the species as a whole and stop pushing out far too many children than this world can support?
Why would his being gay or not affect your opinion of his CEO abilities?
It wouldn't affect his, but that's his point. There are plenty of people that would let a natural sexual orientation affect their decision making because they've embraced a manmade culture that doesn't accept it.

Dont confuse the desire for belief with a scientific mind being open and objective about a universe he can't knows he'll never fully grasp in his limited corporeal existence.
Yep. He's becoming a bit of a distraction lately, Steve was bigger than Apple because of all the tech stuff he'd done. If he spoke out, it was on a technical issue like Flash or DRM. Tim seems to see Apple as some sort of political engine.

Somewhere in the universe today Alan Turing is smiling.
Why? Is Tim Cook a robot?
because alan turing was a genius, and gay. i am not sure if he killed himself, or was murdered... but his life was cut short because he was gay.
so if alan turing was living today, he would be smiling and alive... because being gay/straight does not matter.
We've covered gay issues, abortion, religion, and now in the next hour, a political debate.
Don't forget about iPads...
This thread is doomed. /s
This thread is beleaguered...

No, "I am the man, always the man!"
Never heard of him.

The thread is in a death spiral... Har!
"Is"?
It has been smelling funny for a while now.... in fact, by my reckoning, since about p. 2.

Ha! Yours, is the best post I read upon awaking from my morning nap
BTW, thanks for the earlier post info on Alan Turing -- I did not know that ...
A brilliant person destroyed in his prime because he did not meet scciety's accepted norms.
