I think the new MacBook is an elegant little machine. Fanless and port less, a perfect travel companion. Sure you need an adapter here and there, but if your use case demands it, it is not that big of a deal. Price is a little high for my taste, but that is just one opinion. It is not meant to be a high-performance workhorse, but that said, I am curious as to what type of performance it does have.
That's how I view it too, as a travel machine. 2 pounds is crazy light. Together with an iPad Air 2, you're looking at 3 pounds combined.
Uh why the [sic] tag after "YOUR"? The spelling of "YOUR" is correct. It's the possessive form of you, where you in this case is Apple.
Adding [sic] makes as much sense as correcting your first sentence in the article as such:
"While many in the media are enamored with Apple's latest thin-and-light notebook, competing PC makers haven't been so kind, taking to Twitter to ridicule Apple's [sic] offering for not being the slimmest, cheapest, or highest-resolution on the market."
Sorry, I'm with the critics. Too few ports. Extra cost to get ports.
This will appeal to people who need something like an iPad with a real keyboard - i.e. minimal wired connectivity, used in the lap or on the go most of the time. Maybe Apple has seen that most connectivity is needed in a "docking" situation - on a desk; and in that case, a single connector into which power, external USB & monitor is always connected is better than a bunch of ports that you plug things into individually. I suspect Apple has done enough market research to have a feel if people will buy this. Personally, I'll skip it and go with an MBP.
I wonder if we'll get a MacBook "bend-gate" with these new machines.

The price of the base model for €1,499 is just a bit too steep for me. I would have also loved to have seen a second USB-C charge port on the other side as well. Even for charging alone it would have been very useful. I cannot wait to see a 14" version of this computer with 2x USB-C ports.
And I think for the next MBP revision Apple should move to 14" and 16" displays.
I am in no hurry and will definitely wait. I do occasionally need power so I am a little concerned about that. For me, the ultimate laptop is the 13" MBA. That is fast enough but were I to upgrade today I might go with the MBP for the display. I am all good with the current screen sizes. I spend most of my time with the mb plunged into a big display so even a 12" would be OK.
A 0.3mm difference in thickness is 2.3% thinner (i.e. imperceptible). That appalling graphic makes it look like it's in excess of 33% thinner. Which it's not.
Also cough spyware cough...
Seriously. How did they do that? They could get a false advertising lawsuit if they manipulated the image to make it look thinner. There are tricks that are 'legally acceptable' with graphs such as an offset value, but they appear to show the whole height of both units. What did they do here? Scaling the Lenovo down or placing the Lenovo father away would be false advertising.
I must say that I've yet to use a PC laptop with a decent trackpad. None of them have ever matched Apple's trackpad in quality and user experience.
Absolutely. I've used windows laptops from most manufacturers, and not one of them have a trackpad even close to my MacBooks. My windows leaning friends defend that by stating that 'most people never use trackpads -- only external mice'! What? Really?? I prefer the trackpad on my MacBooks rather than using a mouse!
While I respect that these guys need to take their pot shots, even though Apple never does.... these aren't exactly fair comparisons.
All 3 of these brag about being thinner, but they are all larger and heavier in every other dimension. Obviously if your rig is wider and deeper with a larger screen you will be able to make it a tad thinner.
A few other things of note: the new Macbook has faster PCI-e SSD, while the others are sata3. The new Macbook has an option for 1.3ghz core M processor when these others max at 1.2ghz.
Now all that being said.... they're all great machines. I like the new Macbook because of its smaller size, weight, OS X, and it will out perform these other machines depending on how you configure it.

Of course you use a mouse on the go when you have a poor track pad experience. I have seen this time and time again. I prefer a mouse but the Apple track pad is pretty darn good. I am looking forward to using this new version.

I guess they wouldn't be able to do so in a regulated medium but it seems you can post any old rubbish on Twitter with no come back.

480p camera!?

This is making the rounds:

That Lenovo graphic is egregiously misleading.

I have a few mice gathering dust in a drawer, and I can't even remember the last time that I touched any of them.

Get some glue traps, and catch those little fuckers.
And what OS do they run?
Cherry-picking specs sounds like desperation...
Apple's new keyboard also looks fantastic.
The trackpad experience with other laptops still sucks mostly comparatively.
You are not wrong. The trackpad on the current Lenovo T440s that we use at work is possibly the worst piece of technology I've used in a long time.
Then they laugh at you.
Then they try and beat you down.
Finally, the copy you saying that they had the same idea all along.
USB-C isn't so last year, it's tomorrow, today.

Loser #1: I've got an Asus!
Smart guy: Of course you have an Asus. Otherwise how would you poop?
Loser #2: I've got a Lenovo.
Smart guy: No you don't. The last Lenovo was seen in Borneo in 1887 and is now extinct.
Loser #3: I've got a Dell
Smart guy: You misspelled that, it starts with an "H".
Worse still they run Windoze 8
When the prey is loudest you know you're squeezing the good parts.
"WE SEE YOUR [sic]"
That is not incorrect. Correct use of the word your.
