Other than running Android, admittedly a biggie for those here, why do you think the Moto X Style or Pure doesn't compete with the iPhone 6 or 6+? Where is it lacking?
No Touch ID
No Apple Pay
No Apple Music direct integration
No AppStore
Plastic construction
Zero trade in value after 2 years
No prestige
No real life customer support
No AppleWatch Support
No Handoff with Mac or iPad
No AppleTV support
Worst Camera
No Force Touch
Slower CPU
Need I say more?
In 2 years the MotoX will be worth $0.
In 2 years the iPhone 6S will be worth $250
In the end you are basically saving NOTHING buying the MotoX
As of right now that phone doesn't exist, and it's only rumored to have it., so force touch does not belong on the list.
the Moto's don't exist till Sept too. Stop being dense. The 6S will definetly have force touch.
But the phone with all the included specs have been officially announced. Apple has done no such thing with the iPhone 6s. How many features have been rumored only for them not to be included?
As for the processor being early 2015 the addition of two complementary chips comprising the Motorola Mobile Computing System (1.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 hexa-core CPU (MSM8992) combined with a Natural Language Processor and Contextual Computing Processor) will probably result in first-class performance, perhaps besting other Android handsets recently introduced. Stock Android will help of course.
I probably should have clarified a little bit more. In the case of the 808, while I'm sure the CPU side of things will perform quite well, its GPU is lacking when compared to other SoC's (performance is between the A7 and A8). The current high end SoC's for Android devices are the Snapdragon 810 and Exynos 7420 (currently the best SoC for any mobile phone). Compared to those two SoC's from early 2015, the 808 would be upper-mid range. The combination of hardware and software should result in a nice user experience, just not the best overall (particularly when GPU is a concern).

I agree that we shouldn't just assume, but the evidence is piling up for Force Touch on the iPhone 6S/6S+. In fact, an Android manufacturer, ZTE, has already announced an upcoming device that will have a 5.2 inch AMOLED display that can sense and respond to pressure.
MotoX does not have a comparable feature to ApplePay. Total and utter BS by you.
Of course it does. I've tapped to pay even with my old Moto (tho I didn't find it really all that much more convenient but that's me).The newer model will come with a rebranded and enhanced Google Wallet now called Google Pay, but even current Android phones can check out via NFC.
What would 64-bit do for the average user with this phone? Would it make apps run faster or the OS smoother (assuming it's not)? Would it make the camera better?

Don't be dense.
The $350 Watch has force touch. You don't think Apple's premier product won't have force touch?
The shell of the 6S is slightly thicker. Why?
Use your brain.
I didn't say that it's not going to include but until it does it doesn't.
Hell they don't even have the pricing for all the models yet. They won't go on sale till September. So basically the hands on are preproduction models.
We should call you Googleguy instead of Gatorguy. Must hurt to see Google getting blasted in mobile.
So when Apple announces new phones in September and the media gets hands on time with them are they considered pre-production models?
That has nothing to do with 32 or 64 bit. Nothing. It just involves hardware on the SOC which works for 32 or 64 bit.
Only programs compiled for 64-bit can access the new crypto instructions (see for example the comparison of 32-bit and 64-bit performance on the same Apple A7 processor http://www.anandtech.com/show/7335/the-iphone-5s-review/4). 32-bit and 64-bit apps do not enjoy equal status on ARMv8.
Franky for something you use every day, every hour for multiple years the price difference is minimal.
You can buy an iPhone 5C that will destroy this MotoG for $450. If you keep your phone for 2 years in 2 years you can sell your 5C for $150-$200. In 2 years the MotoG will be worthless. So the price difference really is only $100. Spread that over 2 years and we are talking 13 cents a day to have a far superior phone and experience.
450? 200 in two years? That's some disconnect there between yourself and reality.
You can get a 5C for 200 bucks on eBay right now. In two years, you'll be able to sell it for 75-100 depending on condition.

Well supposedly the camera in the new Moto X is quite good.
It always seemed to make sense to put the camera lens closer to the center of the device. I occasionally get my fingers in the shot with the iPhone because the lens is so close to the edge where I'm holding the device.
Gee, even pre-teen girls taking naked selfies in the bathroom don't have that problem with their iPhones.
"a device that will compete head-on with Apple iPhones expected to launch this fall."
Not enough lols for this statement.
I'm with you 100% on this... Motorola barely got these phones announced before Apple's new iPhones debut with unexpected features that will make the Moto phone green with envy. Also more pixels slow down a phone, Apple's design allows for burst mode, stabilization and slo-mo filming. Can't do all that and refresh a boat load of pixels.
It's good to see Motorola has a fix for their cheap phone from overheating and being too hot to hold. "Just a minute mom, I gotta dunk the phone again..."
"Yes, I'd like to order an iced tea for me and my Moto phone would like a tall glass of ice water."

People are always going to bitch. Ignore them, and be at peace.

Now that's a reasonable response. Thanks.

Sure they exist. How are reviewers doing "hand-on" reports?

Enable full-device encryption without crippling performance. This is what happens when you try to use full disk encryption without proper hardware: http://www.anandtech.com/show/8725/encryption-and-storage-performance-in-android-50-lollipop (the nexus 6 has a 32-bit chip which lacks hardware crypto acceleration).

I would never admit to that no matter how true.
