The ability to trade this in for an automatic down the road seems weird to me.  Who is that supposed to appeal to, people who are willing to pay $1500 but aren't sure if they really want a Smart Watch?
    That would be my guess.

oh look they put the flat tire at the top verses the bottom like all the other Andriod round watches, I bet they thought no one would notice.

I don't think that's the flat tire (it would be black) but Android Wear.

It looks OK, but I wouldn't pay $1500 for it.
I've had a SS 42 Milanese ?Watch since it was available in retail stores and I think it cost around $700 but I still don't particularly like the look of it, but it works well, except the magnet on the end of the strap loosens gradually until the watch is too loose and it disconnects from being paired. Happens about 5-10 times per day. I like the look of this Tag watch much better, but it doesn't have the feature set of the ?Watch.

I also have a SS 42 Milanese ?Watch -- my issue with the Milanese Band is the magnetic end attaches it self to anywhere [it touches] on the band -- makes it fiddley to remove if you have a fat fist.

I think the Tag looks fine -- for those who like that type of watch.

I believe the Tag is an attempt to compete with this ($1,000 - $1,500):

    1000

IMO, this is more appealing and more functional!

Lastly, with an Intel Chip, I wonder if you can hear the fan in the Tag :???:

    Sorry ... Just couldn't help myself :D

I don't know why this keeps coming up, especially if GPS is merely an option and not functional unless in an app. RipCurl makes a GPS watch that gets 10 hours of continuous GPS tracking. That's way more battery time than Apple offers for playing music, and especially more than phone calls.

Yup. Even Apple products have this problem photographed in the wild.

Nope that's a design choice. One that is easily adjusted via software. Apple would do something totally different if they decided to offer a round UI.

The Rip Curl GPS watch is actually pretty cool. A few friends of mine use that watch to track their surfing.

Doesn't actually say a Carrera, just a 'mechanical Tag Heuer' ...

You're kidding yourself if you think they're going to sell a regular Carrera + the smartwatch for $3000.   The mechanical watch is obviously going to be some cheaper version.   Maybe something like $2000 watch.

Well, the devil's in the details, sounds to me like 'an exclusively designed Carrera' could be anything, most likely a cheaper, lesser (surprise -$1,500) version. But hey, it's exclusive!
Towards the end of the Tag presentation then did say that in two years your Connected Carrera and $1500 will get you a mechanical Classic Carrera. Not too bad considering current Classics are $4800US aren't they?

    1. Only the Moto 360 has a flat tire.
    2. That's a blank space on the rendered image.

    What was that...

...oh, yeah an iPhone 6s isn't a "real" smartphone...

Wonder if they still rebuild Seiko movements and try to pass them off as "Swiss", wouldn't touch Tag with a pole.

OK I'm sorry but there is nothing elegant about this.

And the watch itself is HUGE.

Duck Duck Go- tag heuer cal 1887 seiko

They tried to pass off a rebuilt seiko movement as a new "in house" Swiss design.

    Nope!
$1500 for the watch, $1500 for the swap. So $1500 to have a smartwatch for now, and when you're done with having a smartwatch you can trade it in, and throw out another $1500, and they'll hand you an exclusively designed Carrera that typically costs $5000 or more. This way your watch doesn't just become obsolete and sit in a drawer, it becomes timeless?.

if your tag smartwatch is obsolete, why would you want its replacement to be mechanical rather than another smartwatch?

it's not just the awful color saturation on the screen. it's the case design -- it's fat and ugly. it looks like something from Starship Troopers that would go well w/ power-suit space combat armor.

Based on the front pics, that has to be the back of the inductive charger, which also has a removable USB plug, which I'd guess to be Micro-USB.
