So I guess the statement from the Sr. Director of Product Marketing saying something along the lines of "We've just updated all 4 quadrants in the last few months, no new CPUs." doesn't phase anyone? I mean, there may be a bumped TiBook, but doubtful. IF anyone read that article the overall idea is that Apple is going to focus on selling WHAT IT HAS in the next few months instead of pushing new hardware.

The next TiBook will be a generational leap forward I think, and it will come in April or May probably. Higher res screen, new graphics card, new evolutionary casing, 7445 Apollos, architectual enhancements, bumped up HD. As for iBooks, they were just updated at MWSF! Geez. MWNY is probably a good bet on new iBooks, which will also have evolutionary case improvements like the TiBooks, as well as updated graphics cards, etc.

The iBooks were not fully updated, they were given price drops and we got a 14'' iBook but no speed increases...

The iBook is due for a speed increase and it pales in comparisson to the other products...it should at least have an 700 or above G3...maybe even a G4 late this year...Apple might hold off on that til MWSF 03 and make that the BIG hardware announcement...?

True, but I still don't think we'll see an iBook update as soon as MWT. If they had better iBooks they just would have waited and not announced the updated ones at MWSF. They could easily hold out on sales of the older models, as the iBook is one of the most popular lines.

Maybe we'll see a 700 MHz G3 iBook before MWNY though, maybe around May when the new TiBooks come out. It could be like the Oct. 16th event all over again, then evolutionary, newly-designed G4 iBooks could come in the Fall.

I like the confidence you exude when you say that new TiBooks will come out in May.

I have no inside information. Just looking at the timing I agree with some others that MWT seems like a good time to at least introduce a speed bump (no new CPU). We'll find out in a few more weeks.

I have no inside information either, I just think May is a more probable timeframe for a new TiBook after reading what Greg Joswiak had to say about hardware updates.

Hope ya'll see this before Apple removes it but I know a guy who works at a donut shop near Apple and he overheard two employees talking about a new iMac to be announced at MWTK..and on their way out one of them dropped this picture

Man that would be cool. I could imagine internet cafés using those machines. Two computers for the price of one! Plus, if you share out the processor power between two users, it shouldn't affect net performance.

I wouldn't be surprised to see updated iBooks in May. I don't remember all the details, but I do recall that Apple is trying to make an effort to get it's hardware targeted for the .edu market announced by May, since that's when funding/budgetary decisions are made by schools for the upcoming academic year.

I thought some schools got annoyed with Apple when they updated the ibook or imac in july or august, so the schools essentially got stuck with last years hardware.

I'm sure someone out there remembers this.

Since this is Macworld Tokyo I always think that Steve shows stuff that really appeals to the Japanese market and that means laptops and now small portable devices like iPod or the supposed "iCamera" with new CMOS technology. This is Tokyo so do not expect anything as big as NY or SF. Here it goes:

    Hardware:

    1. Powermac-No changes

    2. Powerbook-speed bumps, anodized colored, metal housing in coservative, business colors. No fundamental design changes except DVD-R/CD-RW possibility.

    3. iBook-G4 good possibility, no design changes

    4. iMac-No changes

    5. iPod-more HD space

    6. iCamera- A great idea that I hope will happen but I am not holding my breath. Can anyone explain the advantages of the Foveon CMOS?

    Software:

    1. OSX- no changes

    2. Quicktime 6- where does the licensing issue now stand with MPEG4?

    3. Obviously a big Adobe demonstration

While this would be great, I doubt they would do this so soon after it's recent speed bumps.

Sales would also infringe on the Powerbook territory if a G4 iBook was available.

You know, even though I don't expect it, I hope and pray Aple ups the graphics processing on both teh TiBook and iBook. When will they wake up and put a GeForce4Go or 3 in there?!? Or at the least, up the Mobility Radeon to the latest version--7500 is it--and put it in BOTH books with more memory!

    P.S. Sorry for venting.

I am curious, what are the exact dates? It seems as if everyone knows but me lol. (I am about 4-5 months new to the Mac world, so don't blame me TOO much lol) And, where can I find this out in the future. Thanks.

    noleli,

Way off topic, but I just saw your 2/13 post and your signature. I somehow missed Douglas Adams' passing--probably because I was in Japan at the time. I am deeply saddened.

But, I would like to tip my hat to you for passing the news along to the Mac community.

considering Apple said they won't have any announcements regarded the 4 quadrants/hardware I really doubt we'll see any changes

hopefully a 10GB iPod will sneak on
