Samsung's cylindrical ArtPC Pulse computer apes design of Apple's Mac Pro

in General Discussion
Samsung, in conjunction with Harman Kardon, has quietly revealed the new cylindrical consumer-grade ArtPC Pulse line powered by the sixth generation Skylake processor, which has already begun to draw many comparisons to Apple's 2013 Mac Pro design.

The ArtPC Pulse will be available with a choice of Skylake Intel Core i5 and i7 processors with up to 16GB of DDR4 RAM.

Storage includes a 256GB SSD with up to 2TB of hard drive storage able to be added in an expansion module. Connectivity is provided by a four USB 3.0 Type-A ports, a USB Type-C port, a combination headphone and speaker jack, a 1000-base-T networking port, a HDMI port, and a SD card slot.

A Harman Kardon 360 speaker adorns the top of the unit, above a circular light on the top of the case.

Looking like a hybrid of the Mac Pro, and the recently announced HP Pavilion Wave, the Samsung ArtPC pulse is 5.5 inches in diameter, and 12.2 inches tall. Apple's 2013 Mac Pro is 6.6 inches in diameter, and 9.9 inches tall.

  • 2013 Mac Pro
  • HP Wave
  • Samsung ArtPC Pulse

A configuration with a dual-core 2.7 GHz Kaby Lake i5 processor, 256GB of NVMe storage, 8GB of RAM is up for pre-order at Amazon for $1199.99.

A company so evil it cannot be killed by conventional means.

Pathetic copying and totally underpowered for the price. The 2.6GHz Mac mini, dual-core i5, configured with 8GB RAM and a 256GB PCIe flash storage, only costs $845 (and it comes with macOS Sierra). So much for Macs costing more than "cheap" PCs. The Mac mini also takes up a fraction of the space of this tin can (or plastic bottle). I guess the speaker system costs $200.

And another thing... you'd be running Windows.

But but the cylindrical shape is just a convergence of design. /s

It's the SD card that sells it for me. I bet my Mac Pro smokes that thing.

Well, hate to say it, but I think Samsung's is a nicer design. I like the high level speaker system on top.

I'll bet it smokes the Mac Pro... literally. Including melted metal and scorch marks.

There's always one of you guys posting this nonsense with every one of these stories.  Yes, let's compliment a company for ripping off the design ideas of another...great achievement!

Like putting a speaker system on the hood of your car.

Seriously, what were these idiots thinking?

"Storage includes a 256GB SSD with up to 2TB of hard drive storage"

    Hard drive storage?

That's a good way to slow down what could have been a fast computer.
