Apple Park, already known to be one of the most valuable corporate headquarters in the world, is specifically worth $4.17 billion when including land, furniture, computers, and other items, according to Santa Clara County.

Apple Park

For the sake of property taxes the complex is worth $3.5 billion, the County said in an assessment for a fiscal year ending in June. The company could pay about $40 million annually, said the San Francisco Chronicle, though it has the option of appealing and seeking a lower amount.

The $4.17 billion valuation ranks against $3.8 billion for the rebuilt One World Trade Center in New York City, but nowhere near the cost of the world's three most expensive buildings -- the $15 billion Abraj Al Bait Towers and the $100 billion Great Mosque, both in Mecca, plus the $25 billion ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) fusion project in Saint-Paul-les-Durance, France.

Apple was reportedly the County's biggest property taxpayer in the 2017-2018 fiscal year, paying $56 million overall. The company has properties scattered around the area, including 1 Infinite Loop, its repurposed prior headquarters.

Apple Park uses highly customized architecture, conceived by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, designer Jony Ive, and architectural firm Foster and Partners.

The complex features extensive solar power, and its signature "spaceship" ring is wrapped in curved glass windows. The use of glass extends throughout the interior, where people have reportedly been walking straight into it.

To protect against California's infamous earthquakes the spaceship employs 692 steel saucers designed to shift as far as 4 feet.

Some estimate Apple Park being worth $5B. Still would keep Apple at #4. I guess Apple can't be #1 at everything...

    Forget that tiny county.

Apple is one of the biggest taxpayers in the entire USA, if not the biggest.

Now Apple knows what to do with (part of) its investment capital.  It can buy the Great Mosque and those other two.  Maybe try renting it via AirBnB first though.

The Feds don’t collect property nor sales tax. They collect income tax.

The state collects income tax too (at least here in California) as well as sales tax.

The county collects property tax as well as a supplemental sales tax. Apple’s property tax assessment also contains supplemental parcel taxes for various state, county and city bond measures.

There are many kinds of taxes and they don’t all go to the same place.

Note that Santa Clara County is one of the largest California counties by population and thus in the nation. Moreover with the large amount of wealth (mostly from the tech industry) it is the most affluent county on the West Coast. It’s not such a tiny county.

You gotta see this beauty up close to fully appreciate it. I imagine it has become part of the allure of working at Apple. A recruiting chip to say the least.

Bay Area real estate prices are completely out of control. The shack I grew up in next to Stanford is now worth $2.5m, and it's just an old rancher with no AC and a tiny lot - but location, location, location. Even if it were a smoking crater, would still be worth $2m. It's insane.

I think you missed the point.  Apple—via all types of taxes paid at the city, county, state and federal levels—is among the entities that pay the most total taxes in the entire country.

It has nothing to do with the relative significance of Santa Clara County, which is one of 3,142 counties (including county-equivalents) in the United States.  Apple is a big taxpayer not just in Santa Clara County, but in many places and at many levels of governmental taxing authorities.

Is there any evidence that Ives had “input” on the design decisions? Did he ever say this himself? Being involved during construction is one thing, but that doesn’t mean he made design decisions.
Also, was the ring design really Jobs’s idea? I read once that he had a different shape in mind,

Interestingly, Foster & Partners website, under "corporate headquarters" only lists the Steve Jobs Theatre and not the whole Campus as their work reference whereas, in other instances, it lists the whole project.
Might have something to do with Ive and Jobs input and the "credit" for the design of the building.

That is odd. They were the design architects so I wonder why they don’t have it on their web site.

Attended first shareholders meeting in Steve Jobs Theater.  Not to shabby of a building to hold employee gatherings.

I guess all of those monitor stands add a few billion to the value.

it is an eye candy for sure.  hopefully, the head quarter curse not apply to Apple (many company built their glory head quarter, just to see the company crumble right after - RIM/blackberry as example).

Pixar got a custom Jobs-influenced headquarters and they still seem to be doing just fine ...
