So with all the “G” rated options there is space in the market for people that want stories that are closer to the realities of life be that in violence, sex or language. It does not mean that I’m looking for porn / snuff. Just the freedom of directors to tell the story in best way without needing to worry about meeting a G rating. Streaming content rated R for adults. Shame we dont have HBO down under.
An R rated star wars , just to get some better dialouge would be sweet.
No Star Wars movie/show has ever been rated above PG-13. I find it laughable that you think a R rating would somehow equate to “better dialogue” Basically it regards to dialogue, they’d now be able to say “f**k”. That’s going to make it so much better 🙄
Looks like Disney is using the “PornHub or method” to destroy the competition— readily available inexpensive content that will force competitors out of business. No wonder Disney is saying it will take years before Disney* is profitable, by then the competition will be on the ropes. I suspect Apple will abandon it’s media attempt, Netflix will be worth pennies on the dollar, and the the other media companies will be unable to monetize their streaming businesses.
The Mandalorian reportedly cost 100M for a 10 episode season. I wouldn’t exactly call that inexpensive content. Disney has a huge back catalog which won’t cost them anything to add to Disney +, but I think they are going all in and throwing money at their original stuff.

Netflix is indeed in some trouble. 😎
It isn't inexpensive content, no. But, given that there will be three shows that get to use that general style and prop manufacture (the Rogue One prequel, the Kenobi show, and the Mandalorian), that will pay some dividends down the line.

Apples content will be great and gather its own crowd. You're crazy if you think Apple can't cover costs and will shut down their media arm. At worse Apple can license their media to Disney.
They’re already doing that. There are a number of titles that have odd availability of 4K. There are titles that sell 4K on blu ray and Amazon purchased download, but only HD on Apple, Netflix, Amazon Prime or rental. Presumably they’ll all be in 4K on Disney +.

I disagree. There's plenty of that "black comedy/drama/etc" stuff already on Netflix, etc. We need more of just the opposite, IMHO, which is what these services are catering to.
I just cancelled my Netflix membership because of all the crap their studios are producing, and I'm getting close with Amazon too.
