Cool but what's the point if I have to wait years to continue a story? When is the next episode of Severance? I'll pass, maybe after it matures a bit more.
I also do not appreciate how Apple gives you a free three month trial of ATV+ when you buy new hardware yet will immediately terminate it if you cancel the subscription before the end of those 3 months. It wasn't like that before, you still had access to the full three months. They're hoping you'd forget and it auto-renews, cheap shot.

And how about the next season of Tehran, which apparently was exempt from the SAG strike.

Two Franklin series? They should just combine "Snoopy Presents: Welcome Home, Franklin" with "Franklin":
It is about Benjamin Franklin's journey during the American Revolution. Being 70 years old and having no diplomatic training, he struggles to fit in with the Peanuts gang, until Franklin discovers the neighborhood kite competition. He teams up with Charlie Brown to build an innovative new "lightning kite" and an even greater friendship.

I miss the old days of the simplicity of iTunes. You knew exactly where you were, what you were looking at, and what you were buying.

Navigating the TV app these days requires a college degree. I can't image how non-savvy folks manage it.

The number of times I've wanted to watch something only to find out that it's available through a different "content network" and only being advertised inside the TV app.

Agreed, but — many of these series, and especially Foundation, have AAA cinematic production values. You wouldn’t expect a new Bond movie or Star Wars movie every year. And movies only have two hours of content — these series have several times that. So it kind of makes  sense that it takes a while.

I’ve been trying to figure out if there’s a way in the TV app, as there is in every other streaming app I know, to keep track of which episodes I’ve already watched. It only gives me a button to watch the first episode, and otherwise I have to go through the vague episode descriptions and try to figure out which ones I’ve already seen. It’s hard to believe Apple doesn’t have a solution for this, but I don’t see it, nor do I see any “keep watching” category. Am I missing something?

Wait, what? The TV App isn't only for Apple TV+ content, that's just one channel among many and the app is the launching point for all that content (minus apps like Netflix which don't feed their content into the TV app, for example). The more apps you connect to the TV app, the more are shown. Some content is available from multiple sources, and those are shown on the page for that specific content. If you ONLY want to see content available in Apple TV+ (if that's what you're asking? unclear), go to that channel and only look at its content specifically. It's not that complicated.

Not sure what you mean. Stuff you're currently watching is in Up Next, and will show your next episode or the last episode you were watching. Going to a particular show's page shows you all episodes, where watched episodes have a check mark and in-progress episodes show a progress bar. Where are you only seeing a button to watch the first episode of something?

Just click the TV button on your remote and you can see all recent episode you've watched or are watching even if they're from a different network

Not mentioned in the article but I think Girls State is a companion to a documentary released a few years ago called Boys State.   It's been a few years since I watched but I recall that one was pretty good and expect the new one to be as well.

IIRC that was announced after the strikes ended. Not sure if the production has commenced yet.

FWIW, I re-upped to get "Masters of the Air." It is excellent; and the CGI is *way* better than anything I've seen - it's startlingly realistic. As it turns out, I've long been aware that my family has a connection to the depicted 100th Bomb Group depicted in the show - my father's cousin KIA as B-17 aircrew in 1944.

Interesting, I find the CGI kinda disappointing in MOTA. Every take off & landing scene it's like "Oh here are the CGI airplanes"

Interesting. I definitely don’t see any of that. “Up Next” just shows a list of things I have “added to up next” by clicking the button in the show’s main page (whether or not I have begun watching them), and if I go to the page of a show I have been watching, I see two buttons: “Play First Episode” and “In Up Next.” Absolutely no check marks or progress bars to indicate having watched anything, and the “Play First Episode” button never changes either. Watching episodes makes no difference to what I see in the interface. I’m using an Apple TV HD with the latest software. Good to know that my issue is unique and not just terrible UX, but I’m not sure how I might fix it, given that it has persisted over many software updates and restarts.

I read yesterday that about 1/3 of that season is completed, but that there was a need to do some work on the budgets and locations, so the actors were released to go home.

The content on Apple TV is very poor, critics claim it these days because visually it's good or they approve of "the message" which doesn't actually mean it's an enjoyable watch for the vast majority of consumers!
I started watching masters of the air, couldn't watch any longer half way through the first episode, the writing and script is awful as with many other Apple shows 😏
