However, it's the adult entertainment sector that often pushes the boundaries of what's possible with VR, exploring new ways to create more immersive and intimate experiences.
The introduction of the Apple Vision Pro headset has opened up opportunities for amateur performers like Damien and Diana Soft. The pair are pioneering the use of the Apple Vision Pro to produce VR porn.
As reported by 404 Media on Monday, amateur performers, who may not have had access to traditional adult entertainment platforms, can now showcase their talents and fulfill their fantasies through VR. Apple Vision Pro may become a game-changer for these performers, allowing them to express themselves in previously unimaginable ways.

Initially, the Softs leased a Canon DSLR and a dual fisheye lens and enhanced their computer to manage 4K videos. Despite creating some content that pleased them, with Damien noting the "mind-blowing" possibilities of VR, they initially hesitated to continue.
Deterred by the high cost of equipment, the complex process involved, and the limited audience for VR content, they didn't stick with VR porn at first. However, their interest was reignited with the unveiling of the Apple Vision Pro in June 2023.
"The fact that the headset had built-in cameras was a big incentive, but the thing that finally sold me was that the iPhone 15 already had the capability of taking spatial videos," Damien said. "We bought the AVP on release day knowing full well we probably wouldn't make our money back...but we were determined to inject some real-life intimacy into the world of VR porn."
The couple was concerned that a VR headset would present a barrier since Diana likes to look into her husband's eyes when they have sex. When the Apple Vision Pro is filming, the outward-facing screen pulses, making it clear what's going on.
Still, they laugh off the absurdity of the situation and keep going. "Luckily, this approach has made it easier to move past the barrier, and when I rewatch the videos, the silliness quickly turns into our usual intimacy and the layer of artifice dissolves," Damien noted.
The couple records videos using an iPhone 15 Pro Max using a 3D video recording app named Spatialify designed for the Vision Pro. However, they mentioned that the built-in camera of the headset captures images with superior depth, leading them to favor recording directly through the headset itself.
The scarcity of porn compatible with the Vision Pro posed a significant challenge, prompting the couple to opt for distributing their content in MV-HEVC file format packaged in zip folders, compatible with Apple's headset, as well as in side-by-side formats suitable for devices such as the Oculus. The Softs established a dedicated website to commercialize these, enabling purchases through Stripe and PayPal.
"Ultimately, the Apple Vision Pro is a huge step toward more homemade VR porn," said Damien. "It simplifies the filmmaking aspect immensely. And although the editing process I outlined is a pain, it's infinitely easier than working with the Canon camera only two years earlier!"
As VR technology continues to advance, we can only expect even more exciting developments in the world of VR porn, further blurring the boundaries between reality and fantasy.
