I just realized why Sosa switched to maple bats!...Not because Bonds switched 2.5 years ago, but because they're harder and don't break as often (revealing the cork inside.) Stick to ash, Sammy-boy.
I have maintained that ALL bats should pass an x-ray inspection prior to games for years. I'm very disappointed in Sammy. I have met him in person twice and he came across as a great guy. He actually remembered me the second time which I thought was very cool.I know he does a ton of work for charities in his native country too, so that makes it even more disappointing. We still love you Sammy.
It will be interesting to see what happens with his other bats. If they all come clean that is OK but if a ton of them are corked then he will have big problems. This has never happened before to a potential Hall of Fame player. Between this and the underlying perception that he is juiced he could wind up having a hard time getting in to Cooperstown inspite of hte stats.

I bet they'll announce the bats are clean even if they aren't. There's no reason for the MLB to bring Sosa down completely. This bat was found in play by an umpire doing his job. Committees higher-up probably don't think like he does.

then do something about it.
But baseball's on the way down for the last few years and I doubt it'll ever rebound to it's heydey of the 70's.
Too many other sports vieing for attention...and if you've ever sat through a baseball game today, it's as slow as molasses.
I never get the whole pitching change delay...I mean the frickin' reliever has been warming up already. Just get in and start pitching!
