2001 model 12" iBook 600 MHz w/384 MB of RAM, 14 GB HDD (less than 2 GB free atm), DVD, 10.2.6
1998 model Gateway GP6-266 266 MHz Pentium® II (It's acting as my server for my SHOUTcast radio server and my Direct Connect hub) running Mandrake Linux 9.1 w/96 MB of RAM, 5 GB HDD, 17" screen, 20 (or so) x CD-ROM drive, and for some odd reason it doesn't seem to have a sound card Linux nor Windows can find.... (It only has Linux on it.)
At Home and NOT in Service:
1995 model Power Mac 8500/120 w/64 MB RAM, 1 GB HDD and quad speed CD-ROM drive
1997 model Compaq Presario 4540 233 MHz with 32 MB of RAM (only upgradeable to 48 total) I had gotten this computer from my cousins since they got a faster computer at the time. I had tried to run Linux on it but it ran like sh*t sooo...
I really want an iPod. I have my eye on the new 40 GB model. If/when I get a job I'll get one. I can't even start to imagine how much music I'm gonna put on there (legally).
Like many others I dream of getting a G5 or a faster PC for my server and my Linux experimentations....
There you have it. Those are the computers I have and wish to have. I await your comments lol
hp ?? printer (looking at an epson 1280 eventually)
Compaq Presario something or other
It hasn't been used in awhile but I plan on using it as a server for my XBOX for some freeware online gaming service. xbconnect.com
At work I use an IBM 300GL on Win 95, running a reservations program in a DOS shell. This is where I do most of my posting from.
At school it is a mixture of G4 and G3 towers and 15in Ti books running OS 9. I think that there are 2 PCs used for ??? Wish we were getting G5s. State budget crisis and all.
PowerBook 12": Superdrive, 640MB RAM, Airport. I've applied the Firmware upgrade for 2x DVD-R/16x CDR and DVD-RW (but still haven't burned any DVDs...)
PC: Duron 1300, 256MB, an awesome PCI Radeon. running Win2K. It's still a good machine, considering i) it's age and ii) the main criteria being cheapness. The best component is probably the LaCie 19" monitor: helped a lot during programming projects at university.
uh my powerbook 1ghz, 512 megs of ram, and 60 gig w/ wireless.
at work I have a pretty nice setup, soon to be better (dual g5 2 gigs of ram) currently a 1.25 MDD with 512 megs of ram, betacam SP deck UVW-1800, Panasonic AGPX 1000 Mini DV deck, and I use my Panasonic AGPX 100 to shoot video with, as well as my with 8 channel audio mixer (to go balanced to unbalanced), uh dual 17inch CRT's, eh and some edirol audio monitors.
My first computer ever was a mac plus 1mb 20hd in 1984, because my university (of chicago--we started the manhattan project 1.5 blocks from my apt.) was working on it i got it a few months before retailersa had it what a joy, so ahead of it's time i have been a mac addict since then. only macs, till work where i needed to download images from work and needed a pc (junk) which is a dell insp 8100 hires screen 1.2gz 30hd 256ram
Upstairs i have iMac dv 400 640ram airport 10hd soon to upgrade to 100g 7200rpm airport snow. dell uses dell truemoble card which drops signal about 12 times a day
future---a pb for my wife, ipod and pb 15 for me. when work changes to web based teleradiology i will jump on that pb I want all macs in my house no pc please
Since 1984 (remember that awsesome commercial) i have had to take my mac any mac of mine for tech to repair only ONCE and that was because i did the firmware to 10 wrong (reference genius bar) I tell people that and that i don't get viruses they are stunned because the pc experience has been a dud 25% of wintel buyers return there computers for non usability...amazing that ms still exists.
I sometimes see an AO regular posting in Current Hardware, Digital Hub, etc, and think "what, they have a Mac?".
There are people here who are probably doing 99% of their posting in this forum alone, so I just don't think of them as Mac people for some reason. I am curious to see what you guys own for computers. Does trumptman have a $200 Mac that someone signed over to him for free to balance out a debt load, for example?
I'll start:
Home computer is a Snow 700MHz G3 iMac, 60GB HD, 512MB RAM and an 8x CD-RW.
Portable is a 12" 867MHz PowerBook G4, 60GB HD, 256MB RAM Combo Drive, AirPort Extreme Card. (BADLY in need of a RAM upgrade)
Also have a 15GB iPod and a Canon i450 printer. (attained with the PB in a deal trumptman would be proud of!)
So, whatcha got?
12" PB. PB 2400. Sold Cube. Expecting G5 DP 10 October. Newton 2100 (F/S).
It was delivered to me on September 11, 2001. The introductory Apple manual said that I could connect to the Internet in 5 minutes and it took me only just a little longer than that. I logged into a news channel and saw images of the towers....(I had heard part of the news already...but not the full story). What a shock.
I barely touched the computer again for a few months. I think that I experienced some sort of negative psychological association.

What Distro of Linux are you running?

Mandrake, because I'm a lazy bastard.
Using 9.0 right now, but will likely upgrade to 9.1 in the next week or so.
I've never had any problems with Mandrake, and would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a full install of Linux without much bother.
