My Panther order shipped on 10/22. Last night, I thought it would get to my home today, as it shipped from Rancho Cordova (an eastern suburb of Sacramento), and I live in Elk Grove (a southern suburb of Sacramento), total distance < 10 miles.
FedEx shipped it by way of Oakland, 85+ miles away.
What really sucks ass is that if it doesn't get her by 4 on friday I won't be able to pick it up till monday. Apple still has not shipped it so I doubt I'm going to get it until monday. Man I am Pissed about that cause I have been so looking forward to this day for like 6 months now.
hey mine is coming from CORDOVA TN to texas. oh how nice!!! problem is im at school!!!!!!~!!!!!!! so i have to then wait for my parents to open the box, install on their computers, uh i mean diagnose the problems with some fo the discs ariving in th mail. then they have to mail it to me, i might not get it till next week. Unless, they let me come home, nhaaaa.
All FedEx packages go through Memphis, even if you're sending the box next door. Like others said, it's the international FedEx hub where all packages go through to be processed. Seems inefficient, but I guess it's worth the apparent waste to centralize all operations.
It's quite a sight to see FedEx planes almost as far as the eye can see when you fly into Memphis International Airport. The airport has the motto, "Memphis: The Distribution Center of the World," plastered all over (or something to that effect).
Apple probably has regional distribution warehouses for their stuff, hence the PA shipment origin. This makes more sense when the package is shipped via UPS or the USPS instead of FedEx since the other two don't have central processing. They will therefore deliver the box from the closest regional warehouse to their regional distribution center, then to the local distribution center if necessary, and finally to your door.

Grrrrr... still hasn't shipped. Now I'm getting nervous that it won't go out in time.

Weird, yeah, mine did the exact same thing. Must be the new time/space VPN tunneling built into Panther.

It's not the fact they are going through memphis - it's the fact there is a worm hole from oakland to memphis which is the weird part...
