Excellent iMac!

Now only if I could have that one instead of a 6116 at work...

At this rate, we're going to come up with a better iMac enclosure than Apple wil!

Could the slot-loading optical drive be mounted in a little projection from the iMac's front face, kind of like an upward facing louvre? It could be sloped so that it was flush with the front face at the bottom, gradually sloping up to be about half an inch out. Know what I mean?

Still waiting for that mockup, pscates...

I never said the original TAM had see thru CD panel. I said that the *new* iMac could use that feature which has been in many Bose stereos for a while now.

As the owner of a TAM, I have to say, pscates, that is a beautiful design. I would buy one in a minute.

The TAM subwoofer also contained the power supply (many think that the interaction of the speaker and the power supply is what caused the infamous "buzz" that marred the otherwise spectacular sound on so many TAMs). Everything else is in the main unit, including a 7" PCI slot. The TAM is processor-upgradable by way of the L2 slot; Sonnet at one point had a 500 mhz G3 upgrade card, but now the fastest they sell is 400 mhz (which I have). No G4, I'm afraid.

The TAM is in many ways the epitome of old-school Apple design. Soon after its release came the eMate and the original midnight-blue LCD Studio Display and, of course, the iMac.

    promises, promises...

I'd do it myself but I suck at photoshop, though I've promised to learn once I step up to a digital camera and a mac. For now I'm still sorting black and white 35mm. Total novice, but I'm making it a hobby... slowly.

Louvre. That's the perfect word (I don't know why it didn't come to mind before, guess I've been a little slow lately) I guess we come back to the question of which way this louvre will project? If up, towards the screen, then hands would always contact the screen. If down, then the iMac would have to be a little higher for clearance. Although I guess they could have it mounted higher in the chassis, most of it behind the screen, with only a lip projecting out below the screen -- disc ejects like a tounge sticking out. Or...

I keep thinking it'd be kinda neat to have the louvre vertical and the disc eject horizontally. This way hands wouldn't go anywhere near the screen. Apple could try something asymetric with the case.

Or, they could mount the drive right in the middle so that the louvre (ejecting the disc) is off to one side. Off to the other side, instead of becoming flush again, there is another matching louvre. But not a false one -- It hides USB and firewire ports. All symetrical now.

Between these two slots, where the plastic runs a nice concave curve flush to the rest of the machine, an iPod style wheel controls power-reset, volume, and screen adjustment.

You know what? I think we really are designing a better mac.

Is now the time for my monthly "Apple and B&O should work together with Apple/B&OLink, the design, the whole Form Is Function" ramble?

So do I...that's why I use Illustrator.

Some things have come up today that I've had to attend to, and it's knocked me off course/schedule a bit, so it may be another day or so for the revised illustration. I'll plug away more tonight, but I can't guarantee anything. I'll surprise myself if I get it done tonight.

    Sorry...

Let's all start rumors about when pscates' new iMac mockups will come out.

I heard on MOSR that they will be out tomorrow, but ThinkSecret.com says they'll be out tonight. I'm going with tomorrow.

I don´t understand why you are so sceptic pscates. It isn´t on MOSR anymore. It must be Apple Legal that made them pull it. And we all know what that mean:

    CONFIRMED!!!

So anyone know anything about the specs or colours of the iPscates?

As for the speakers (in general) I heard there was going to be a new iSub/eye ball speakers. A new enclosuure and look for them. But I do agree that the iMac will have built in radio alarm clock speakers.

    You guys...

Hey, if my prediction/mockup IS right on the head (or reasonably close), will all of you take up a collection to buy me one?

In addition to Cable TV, radio, modem, and printer ports, the TAM also had S-Video, dual-microphone ports, a speaker port, and a SCSI port. Half the ports are located behind a panel, which also provides a cable router to keep everything neat and tidy.

The TAM also has a Comm II slot, in additional the PCI slot. So, you could put an Ethernet card in the Comm slot, and use the PCI slot for something else.

Like the power supply, and I believe (check, those who doubt) the CPU & main logic board!

    Definately not an all-in-one configuration...

Like applenut has said, the 'subwoofer' only contained the subwoofer, and the power supply. Nothing else. Everything is housed in the TAM's main case.

Not quite. There is a small one-inch wide sliver on the right side of the CD-ROM unit which is transparent, allowing you to see the disc spin. It's not much, but it's there.

The TAM also had a floppy drive in the right. Other notable features are leather palm rests, and an interchangeable trackpad. You could take the trackpad out, and put it on the side if you like. There's a 'dummy' pad under the keyboard to fill the space.

As an owner of six (6) TAMs , I personally vouch for the accuracy of the information above.

Noooo! Next thing you know, pscates' next mock-up will be a picture of the current CRT machine.

Does anyone think that a spinning CD might be too distracting sitting right under the moitor like that? In the right mood (or wrong one) small stuff like that drives me crazy. If I want to listen to CD while working on a paper, noticing that spinning disc would make me insane! A small sliver of a window, OK, but a large window is too distracting. Then again, I'm usually wired full of caffine and sleep deprivation whenever I'm actually working, so it might be an atypical experience.
