Actually, I bet an N64 would be a fine system for a little kid.

Man Nintendo used to be badass....not its getting more and more kid like which sucks. Only problem I have is when I load up my roomates Xbox they have that big old MICROSOFT pop up every time....and I just feel so..so..so dirty. But Halo2 would alone probably make me by the system, and since I have ginormous hands the big ass Xbox controllers rule. However gamecube is nice and cheap with some sweet games that never get old (monkey ball 2, mario kart).

You don't like gaming of any kind?

If I would only buy one console today, I'd go for the PS2. There are so few really good XBox or GC games on the horizon, while the PS2 seems to get all the important ones, in addition to the exclusives. The controller is also superior (important!)

The XBox only sells reasonably well in US - in Japan it got no support at all, and the GC outsell it in Europe

    Now get a PS2 with:

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (best on ps2)

SSX 3 (best on ps2 by far)

Soul Calibur 2 (really best on GC, but sheesh)

Rez (this is a spectacular little gem!)

    GT3

    GTA: vice city

    ..and you should be set

The PS2 has more games and developers supporting it. That is one major plus point.

Also, if u r into RPG games, the PS2 is the console for u since the final fantasy series and many other great RPG titles are PS2 only. However, if action or shooting games are your kinda games, the XBox may be the better choice.

It all boils down to what kind of games u like to play. Graphics should be of secondary importance.

    Happy Gaming!

A matter of pure opinion. Having used controllers from all three, I have to say the GameCube's is the most comfortable. The XBox's monster controller is no good, but the smaller one is fairly good. I hate the PS2's controller though. It's, what, 7 or 8 years old without any changes? The way the GameCube controller just melts into my hands is wonderful. I guess if you want a really, really small controller, you'd like the PS2.

My suggestion - go to a Best Buy, try out all the video games on display, see which you like best. The feel, at least - you have to also look at what games you want before you buy.

I always liked my PS2. The biggest problem was that there was no good connection to the projector, so everything was fuzzy. You get used to it. It's still MUCH better than on any sort of TV.

Camecube can be fun if you like that sort of thing, but most people I know with them are talking about dropping it since none of the big boy games are coming out on it. However, I do know a couple of adults that love it. I think they were just bored of playstation games.

I come from a playstation culture.* These days, however, it looks like all of the good games are coming out on both ps2 and xbox and xbox has better graphics.

I'm mainly getting the console (decided on xbox) since it seems a little weird to spend a bunch of money and time to build a new PC just to play max payne (also looking forward to halo2 and XIII). I already have enough computers in this house that I don't need another one that will be obsolete in a year or two. Actually, it will probably cost about the same since I will also have to get the x2vga connector for the projector.

I, for one, prefer deathmatch games. I first fell in love with them through Face Ball on Super NES. That was the shit. Simple, to the point and fun. Max Payne is one of the few non-deathmatch games I've ever played that were actually interesting enough to hold my attention.

*yeah, I've gone the whole route from atari through all of the nintendos and even still have an original sega, but that was years ago. It's been playstation 1 & 2 for years now.

also, the future of the playstation seems very good indeed. It's gonna spot blue-laser dvd, built in camera, modem/ethernet, a wierd cd holder, and bio-chip.

My vote would be for a GameCube especially with how cheap they are these days. The graphics are great, the games are really fun, and the controller is the best I've ever used. Plus it's a lot better looking of a system than the other two.

I believe they do, but 'good' might be a stretch. Check them out at a Best Buy first. Although according to most they're better than the original, some still hate them. I've read reviews for some games that steer users towards the PS2 version because of the controller even if the graphics aren't quite as good.

Personally, I don't like the Xbox though. I really like the hardward inside the PS2.

    Yeah, I'm a PS2 fan, too. That's why it's been such a rough decision.

the only platform that has ever had a title that has had me ADDICTED, and i mean, i regret having to leave the house for fear of losing hours playing, have been on nintendo over the years.

gamecube is f'n cheap, yet still has graphics on par with xbox. yes, xbox-philes, you heard me right. pity is only nintendo seems willing (or maybe able) to max out the performance of the box. a friend brought over a gamecube one night for me to try out metroid prime over the weekend, and i tried not to give it back. even offered to buy it off him. gc may have fewer games, but i would argue you will enjoy a higher percentage of them than the ones on any other platform. gosh, where have i heard that argument before???

i tried renting xboxes from blockbuster a few times, but nothing really stuck for me. even halo seemed, well, like the distillation of a fps. yes, the warthogs were cool, but it just had a fell of "i've done this before." and those first controllers. damn i hate them. have not tried and "2nd gen" controllers yet.

best selection of games goes to ps2, though i will agree the load times are INSANE. deus ex took twice as long to complete, and i only stayed with it because it was DEUS F'N EX. fps + wicked plot + good voice acting + basic leveling up a la rpg = awesome game. the upcoming psx looks kinda promising, except that i highly doubt anyone with a ps2 already will buy one. but if you have held out, it'll be one fantastic all-in-one entertainment box (and hopefully a better dvd mechanism inside... ps2 has a nasty habit of choking at bad times in movies)

I picked up Project Gotham Racing 2 last night for my Xbox. Pretty sweet racing game. Yay Xbox.

I now own 3 games. NHL 2K3, NHL 2K4 and PGR 2. heh

IF you live in Toronto, PS/PS2 is the only way to go. Excellent software support from the Chinese community.
