Over here in the UK, there is 1 DP1ghz and 12 800's left in the supply line. You can view this via the link;

It shows how many units are available from the manufacturer at a point in time.

Maybe they should call MacMall (or was it MacWarehouse) and borrow a few from them since they have thousands.

Off Topic: Just wanted to extend my thanks as well. I figured out the previous acronymn, but there are some nice ones in that list. Although, they did omit DILLIGAF (had DILLIGAD etc though) and FUJIMO (which I wish Moto would already do).

Back on Topic: As for my hopes for Apple's next PMac, I hope they make all other PCs look like FRED. I think we'll get it too, before Seybold...

    Thanks Again CodeWarrior!!!

edit: one of these days, I'll learn to type ... NOT

And they don't have RDF right. Hell, that's been in use for almost 20 years now.

Apple, knowing it has all its professional users and greedy teenagers with superfluously generous parents, will release the new machines at Seybold. It knows they will wait as long as they have to for the DDR boards and whatever else, as they already have waited quite some time. What's two months?

Anyway, anybody got those photos of the rumored new machine? I'd like to see them (missed all the hubbub).

    Thanks in advance [email protected]

I'm sure this has been posted elsewhere on this board, but I didn't have the time to read every post in every thread, so I will post it anyway

    ----

Maybe Steve's plan was to release the new PM's 'semi-concurrently' with nVidia's NV30. (As most of you know) That chip was supposed be released in August and has since slipped... Maybe Steve is holding out?

I think the fact the nVidia had their GF4-ti demos running on Jag at SIGGRAPH, (using all of the vertex capabilities of the cards) might show some evidence to this?

What do you guys think? If this is the case I just hope the NV30 is 'taped' out soon?

I think all that is is what they have in stock or on order at DABS. MacWarehouse UK has 257 800s, 0 933s and 38 2*1000s.

Perhaps that's an indicator, I don't know what they usually keep in stock.

One, the 993 I think is are now showing as 'temporarily unavailable'...

    Hi,

Here's my take from the UK...

I think that Apple will announce the new PowerMacs at an event on the 13th (the Flint Center diary being unavailable online is a good indicator) BUT they won't be shipping/available till the 24th as they will come with Jaguar pre-installed...That would make sense of the rumors about some 'midnight madness' marketing plans.

As for specs...a new case (i think the one posted then taken down is likely), 3 CPU configs Dual 1.2ghz, Dual 1.4 Ghz, Quad 1.6Ghz with DDR333 RAM and nVidia N30 in the top two and ATI 9700 Radeon in the low end, SuperDrive across the board, bluetooth and airport built in, I'm also betting that Xserve will see a quiet speedbump to keep it looking good against these new PM's.

As for AppleExpo Paris, i think it'll launch iCal etc... and see a tweak to the PowerBooks, speeds bumped to 800, 1Ghz and bluetooth built in to replace the lost IrDA (grrrrr...!)

Pick it apart, and slam me but that's my opinion...

Don't be so optimistic. Your appetite for enthusiasm will thank you later.

well maybe the case is true given that QE is off-loading all the work to the graphics card, lot of heat there

Since most rumours question whether the quantity of 1.4 GHz chips, its pretty unlikely we'll see any multiprocessors at this clock rate or higher... especially 1.6!

The nv30 hadn't even taped out a couple of weeks ago, there is no way Apple could even demo it on the 13th.

The ATI 9700 might be available for demos but I don't think we'll see production units for a little while yet.

If I had to bet I'd say new towers annouced August 13 and Steve will say they're shipping now*

    * in reality about a week or two later so jagwire can be preinstalled

Apple needs new towers ASAP the current ones are just too outdated.

Dual CPUs across the board would be nice but I doubt it, they'd only do that if the top speed was 1.2 GHz and had nothing else.

    I'm hoping they start > 1 GHz. 1.2, 1.4 & dual 1.6 sounds nice.

Someone else above said dual for all of those but thats wishful thinking especially if Apple wants to keep the price of the entry model tower to $1599 USD.

Perhaps they feel they should start the pro line at $1999 in which case I could see dual CPUs and SuperDrive standard on the low end.

just checked the availabilities at one of the swiss warehouses.

they have no 933's or dual ghz's, and 83 800's in stock (who said imac cannibalisation ?)

the expected delay on both the 933 and the ghz is 20 days.

    on a related note, they have 23 pbg4 800's and 33 667's in stock.

the stock on imac LCD's is 250 for the lower-end model, 115 for the middle one, and 55 for the faster one.

The delivery time for PowerMac's has just changed at the Apple Store - from "1-3 days" to "3-5 days" for all models. IMHO this CONFIRMS the new ones are coming soon, but based on past history, "soon" may mean anytime in the next few weeks... August 13 is my guess.

Well new hardware will definitely be out before Seybold I'd say. I received some advertising today for an event in late August and to take a small part of the advertisement:

[quote] See the next generation of Apple hardware in action

I suppose it could be the next generation of consumer hardware but that strikes me as a little unlikely. I'd say it's a very safe bet new hardware will be out in time.

Apple probably isn't selling *any* Power Macs right now. Everybody knows that new ones are right around the corner, and that if they buy a new Power Mac right now, it'll be superseded within days by one that's faster and cheaper. So every day that goes by without the release of the new Power Macs is another day that Apple doesn't sell product, and that ain't good.

The 'crystal clear savings' incentive ends next Monday, August 12. After that there will be *no reason* to rush out and get a G4 before the new ones come out. So I predict that the new G4's are going to appear on Tuesday, August 13, without much fanfare. They'll appear on Apple's web site, along with an accompanying press release, but there won't be a big media event around their release. They'll ship with Jagwire, and then Jagwire will appear on store shelves on August 24, and then the Seybold keynote on September 9 will gush about how wonderful 10.2 is and oh by the way we released some new Macs.

Why do I think there's not going to be a whole lot of hoopla over the new G4's? Because I suspect they're not going to be very revolutionary. They're going to have the same 'handles' case which has been around for almost four years now. They're going to bump the CPU speed up to 1.2 GHz, maybe 1.4 or even 1.6, but nowhere near the 2.5 that's currently shipping on the PC side. They'll have DDR memory like the Xserve, but nothing else about them is going to be really noteworthy. They're just going to be a 'refresh' of the G4 line, that's all, nothing more.

But this is just my prediction, and I hope to be proven wrong. :-)

Good first post/prediction Vulpine. I agree with the "No Event" theory.

Apple has released big things at special "Apple Events" before, so I don't think any particular conclusion about the nature of the event can be drawn from that. I happen to agree that this will "only" be a DDR machine in the 1.2-1.4 GHz range, but it could be more or less and the nature of the event doesn't really tell us.

What I do want to know is whether any invites to the press have been sent out a week in advance (i.e. today).

    Yo people,

This is my view on things. It may be wrong I don't mind though

    Ok....... check it.....

The Macs have to be released very some becasue everyone is talking about it and if they wait any longer then the gap will further widen between between the PC and Apple.

Also no one seems to be mentioning that Apple have resently paintented loads of names. One of which is 'Gigawire' I think it is going to be the next up graded to firewire tranmitting data in GBs rather than MBs. This would fit in nice to everyone else's DDR theory.

As a couple guys have mention above. I think it will be a small release, little noise!!!!

Update on the Dabs link(UK), the 800 and 933 are now saying a 3-4 weeks wait, while only 1 DP is available from Apple. Guess they will become available on the 24th.

ps Dabs stock is in RED, and the quantity that they can get from the supplier is in BLUE.
