What I think it would be possible for Apple to bring to Iceland would be
1: ease of use
2: syncing with the iApps
3: Assuming there is enough infrastructure (someone mentioned that he got on the web with an iBook, OSX, and a Samsung phone at 14.4K: more than enough for iCal and Mail syncing). That syncing would be available on the fly at any time. One might check out the services offered at No-IP.com to see some of the possibilities, as well.
4: Beautiful industrial design.

The problem is if we assume Apple is not interested/capable of creating an operating system/platform for a mobile phone, which I think is a pretty reasonable assumption, then there is very little opportunity for them to add 'Apple's legendary ease of use'
These devices will all sync with iApps anyway (Bluetooth + Rendevous)
Beautiful industrial design is not enough on its own without enhanced and unique functionality and this simply is not possible.
The Ericsson/Sony deal looks like its going to come to an end in couple of quarters because of a lack of sales. These guys have spent more $billions than Apple has in the bank and they are still going to fail.
Some people seem to be confused about the 'convergence' thing. The convergence is in the different professional and domestic activities converging on the computer. The hub. It is not the convergence of the hub peripherals...not in Apple/Jobs world anyway. You will see some convergence in these peripherals from the japanese manufacturers because they have a 'gadget' oriented culture and a scatter gun approach to development and marketing (or at least they used to...Panasonic has adopted a very Jobsian hub-device philosophy of late)
Apple's philosophy is clear and is dictated by their cost structure, internal organisation and public persona. Essentially every product has to be a 'hit. To try and ensure this Apple go to extraordinary lengths to make their products as fantastic as possible at the CORE function.

Why should we assume that? The iPod OS is a pretty good start. Add a touch screen, inkwell, and links to the contact list, and one does indeed have that opportunity.
Apple is great at making their products. They make them as advertised...
What apple should be thinking of now is making a cell phone that works. You are near your computer, it checks your phone preferences and it syncs the information, no questions asked. That is the kind of automatic that the cell phone and computer synchronization needs.
Then, why don't you just allow for add-ons? Release some documentation on making add-ons, say at the bottom where the firewire port is for powering it up. This would allow anyone to make an iPhone add on such as a digital camera, music player.... shure, they might not be great...but there are many Newton add-ons that allow the product to go many places!
However, Apple should not make an all-in-wonder Phone. Just take what people use often about a cell phone, schedules and contacts (and the occasional game of break out), and put them in there.
Ink has nothing to do with a tablet or an iPhone at this point. The technology is not being developed, but has been developed and is now finally being used for computers. It was a technology that Apple did not want to waste.Of course, in the future, it will be much more important (Apple buying WACOM.....) and something will turn itself out....
Also, about the rumor maker: He is obviously, if lying and makin' things up, trying very hard to lie to us and making up project names that have very good meanings. If he is telling the truth, which i believe he is (yet with out all the details), then these project names make sense
However, when did Apple release the Project name of their products and someone look if they had anything to do with the actual product?
In conclusion, Apple should not cram too many things into their iPhone, just allow for great synchronization with the computer. Also, does Apple ever release Project names of their released products?
I could see Apple making some nice coin with a service plan for their Cell Phone that ties into .Mac which also is a service plan which also ties into....
I can understand people not wanting a cell phone and an MP3 player, but what if the best MP3 player(iPod or descendant) also just happened to double as a cell phone(or feature cell phone and PDA features) for a similar, or only slightly higher price?
hmmm... I wouldn't, but others may. I found Handspring originally attractive because of their add-on module, so I could have my PDA, and then a phone (and an MP3 player, and a GPS, etc.)
Now, I think I like the idea of a phone that can do more than just call. That's because I would carry a phone everywhere, buy maybe not an MP3 player (well, lets see what happens if I get an iPod).
That's why I like devices like theSony Ericsson P800, as I've stated many times. This has it all, but more importantly, in a form factor I can easily carry around.
The topper for me is that I can connect to the internet anywhere with Bluetooth and this phone and my iBook. Or use WAP without a laptop.

However, the SonyEricsson form factor is murder for any kind of visual use (the "P" word, y'know). And using the phone as an MP3 player will cut the battery time drastically...

this has been done to death but -there are so many iPhones already-& i think iPhone.com is already taken- to repeat any way here's an eg....

Very, very nice. I just hope that there is some super-amazing speaker technology where it doesn't need a little speaker grate and can just use the screen as the speaker driver. Because I don't want to use headphones all the time.
Other than that, I just love it. Great mockup. If anything, it might be a little longer than completely necessary. But more screen space is a plus to me.
