Ya I think it will be the end of the Lakers as they are seen today. Maybe they finally realized that money cant (always) buy a championship. I expect that they will be trying to rebuild the team over the next few years.
Money didn't buy anything. Karl Malone and Gary Payton both took big pay cuts to gain a title attempt. If you want to see teams that are way over the cap, look at crazy Isaiah and the Knicks.
Well, it's the end of the current Lakers team as we know it. No more Phil it appears. Kobe may be gone aswell as a few others who let's face it, just need to move on.
I wouldn't call it trying to buy a championship either. It's not like they outbid other teams for malone andPayton. They simply had two older players who were willing take pay cuts for the chance to win a championship in LA.
And it will probably happen again because unlike shit organizations like the Pacers, the Clippers, Hawks who will probably never win a championship, players want to play for the Lakers.
It's not the Lakers fault that players are willing to take less money to come play here.
So yeah, it may be a couple years before we're competitive again. But that's the nature of sports. Teams envy the Lakers because their losing cycles just seem to be shorter and few and far between.
Dynasty is a bit of overkill for me. I do believe that L.A. will continue to have good teams just like the Yankees. That's because the owners have something to do with it. They may not always have Kobe or Shaq, but they'll have someone. It's L.A.
Mr. Davidson owns the Detroit Pistons, Tampa Bay Lightning, and the Detroit Shock (women's basketball), all champions in the past year in their respective leagues.
The Detroit Lions, who are owned by the Fords, have never won anything in the last 435 years they've been owned by the Fords (give or take a couple of seasons).
If only Mr. Davidson would be the Detroit Lions and Tigers.
If I had alot of money, I would rather live in teh hills of LA than detroit! or even Philly!!!
I hate how crowded Ca is, and trafffic is unbelievable and depressing . . . . but if you have beaucoup-cash there are plenty of great things in LA that don't exist in Mishigan, New Kersey, Indiana, etc etc
Besides all these playas imagine themselves being the next discovery for TV . . . well . . .maybe
Oakland County in Detroit (which includes Auburn Hills and the Palace) is one of the richest counties in America. It probably can't touch Marin County, but it's not bad. Where you want to live is a matter of individual taste, of course. I'm finding that living in Regensburg, Germany is more interesting than living in some of the large, American cities.
I haven't been to L.A. in twenty years, and probably won't be there for another twenty. But San Francisco I like.
But it doesn't matter. The current basketball world revolves around Detroit right now, having shifted from L.A.
