thegelding, that's the damn coolest box I've ever seen. You've got to post more of them
I won't see mine until Monday since I'm due in (doing) Manhattan this weekend. But the cube was only a little smaller, while the 15" LCD and Cinema 22" were humongous
What is in a name; if I can get the desk cleared up at the office I can show the iMac next to a cube; but I've got to quietly put a 7500 to sleep... It will be a sad moment, especially with those 3 Apple external SCSI HDs being unplugged one by one..... Sort of like a HAL9000's last moments.
cubit...that is not my site...can't post anymore photos of the iMac still in it's box...i have been using it for a week and would never be able to put it back the way it came....so it is up to you...when you get you iMac take many photos of the unboxing....g
don't know if i would let it sit in a mail room over the weekend...give them a call and see if one of the mail clerks will come in for a half hour on saturday so you can pick it up...might be worth it for him/her if you offer them a few bucks....g
I'll answer that question. Only one power button on the back of the base. Apple is encouraging users to keep the iMac in sleep mode when not in use. I spent a few minutes playing with one at CompUSA yesterday. Looks much better in person. The screen is exceptionally bright and easy to move yet stays put.

added word, entourage, quicken and quark to dock.....removed mail and appleworks....plus i added iPhoto to the dock...i was surprised that it wasn't there by default....g
I was using the new iMac and when I played something like a rock song I couldn't go above 75 percent volume withpout bad distortion. does the iSub fix that problem? could you try like a heavy song with and without the isub at near max volume and see if it makes a difference or distorts with the iSub?

yes applenut i will try that and get back to you (but i'm an old man and rarely play my music that loud)....g
ok...played some AC/DC (big gun...about the hardest rocking song i have on iTunes at the moment...can also check with some punk or glam rock if you like) with and without the iSub....sound (of course) is much fuller with iSub and cleaner? too..clearer and much nicer sounding.....
with iSub on it sounds best about 2/3 of max volume...at 3/4 the pro speakers were bouncing on the table (probably should move iSub to floor if playing that loud)...could easily fill a dorm room at 2/3 with pro speakers and iSub without distortion....at 3/4 there is still no distortion with the iSub, but the sound is getting more muddled and the speaker cones of the pro speakers is really boucing in and out (a bit more than i am comfortable letting them do for too long)....
without the iSub....never as clear, clean or full sounding....plus distortion starts around 2/3 of volume and really kicks in at 3/4....if you use your iMac as a sound system in your room or dorm, definetly get an iSub....will help out volume and sound quality greatly....
would have loved to have this computer when i was in college...think of all the chicks i could have gotten wait, i was with my wife at the time, so i take back that last statement
hope this helps g
ok also tried bowie (hang onto yourself from 1972 Ziggy Stardust lp)....again, could get above 3/4 with iSub...no distortion, good sound, but speaker cone really working with lots of movement.....without iSub, instant distortion at 3/4...not a good sound....get an iSub today is my suggestion or a boombox will actually give you better sound..burn cds with your iMac and play on your boombox.....though the iMac is great sounding for my computer room...g
your welcome....price break?? when i bought mine it was 99 freakin bucks...i think it is 59 bucks now....so almost half of it's orginal price....it really does improves the sound...at $99 it was way too expensive...at $59 it is worth it for the increased sound and quality...it would be a steal at 40-49 bucks....g
should be included since it makes the iMac sound so much better...

how do you use this isub? (i mean, whats it plug into?) im assuming it works in conjunction with the speakers we got with our new imac?
i have some logitech speakers and subwoofer i bought a few months ago, and they sound really good. i've had many a slammin' party with them. i was thinking about switching back to them but they dont match as well, being that they're putty colored with a black subwoofer. i dont like how i get distortion with these new imac speakers with volume over 75%. maybe when i have a party, i can switch. for now, i dont need to hear "you've got mail" with a booming bass.
i never answered your question about the mouse. sorry. no, i didnt hook it up yet, since i havent had a chance to dowload the usb overdrive. i need time to enjoy the imac in between my setting-up frustrations. i have phototshop and ms office (os 9 versions) which i havent even gotten around to installing. btw, which mouse did you buy, if any?

I also thought the iSub would have seen a price break by now
59 isn't that bad.
I still think it should be included on the high end model.
maybe they make a gamers/music iMac with 17 inch lcd, iSub standard and combo drive with GeForce 3 or 4...
for an iSub now:

or

if apple is dropping the price, maybe something new is coming?? g
I will get one if my iMac will arrive this year.
