At these prices, Apple should have done better, and they didn't.
If I had paid the money that Apple is looking for, a great deal more than most other Core Duo portables, I would be appalled.
Heat and excessive noise are not acceptable at those prices. Apple should do a recall and get these machines right.

The noise is a processor problem
Powerful laptops tun reasonably hot
Battery life seems better than to windows equivalent machines...by brothers PC laptops battery would die within 1 hour of charging - not good!!
Apple has ironed out most of these issues now & have replaced any defective laptops...
They are not expensive for what you are getting - I will soon get a 15 or 17" MBP & am sure will be happy with it

So sure, you have 7-8 hours of battery life... But you're paying more than the top-of-the-line 17" Macbook Pro, for a 13" 1024x768 Windows-only laptop with a smaller hard drive, limited optical drive, less ram, AND to top it off, an Intel Integrated Graphics chip set!
Also, keep in mind.. "Marketed battery life" isn't the same as real-world usage. Apple claims 5.5 hours for their Macbooks. Panasonic claims 7.5 hours. For the extra two hours, AND the same hardware, I'm sure you'd be paying near $5-6,000. And keep in mind, that doesn't include the aesthetic appeal of Apple's hardware, nor the fact Apple's laptops have the ability to natively run Mac OSX and Windows.
All-in-all, I'd say the Macbooks are right where they should be.

Um, are you positive you have the brand right? Like, maybe you mean Samsung?
Then again, I remember people saying it was the end of the world when they had dead pixels, and I never even noticed the fact that I had two of them until I looked. Once I stopped looking for them, it never bothered me again. So maybe my standards just aren't the same.

Since Netdog doesn't own a MacBook or one of those Panasonic machines, then it's completely valid and fair to compare *complaints about MacBooks* to *marketing drivel about a dissimilar PC laptop*.

Me? I'm glad the 17" brings back the 800 since I've got several hook ups.
- had very noisy fans
- emitted a strange and annoying buzz when running on batteries
- ran very hot
- were not being fixed by Apple, who was telling people there wasn't a problem
Sorry that the blind faithful get so disturbed if their precious love (a computer company, not a friend of yours) gets questioned in a colourful way.
For those of you who have very short or selective memories, Apple has had their share of lemons, and like other companies, they sometimes are hesitant to stand behind their products (iPod batteries anyone?).
Anyway, if I want to be sure that a laptop will be up to snuff before dropping $2000+, so be it. People who think I did something wrong by posting this at two boards might be better off getting a life.

I've no intention to tell you what not to say, only I bought the original 128k Mac a week after they came out, way back in 1984 and I've had most of them since-- all except the Grand Towers-- which I could never quite justify. Moreover, I've had most of the operating systems in both English and Japanese down to when we didn't have to buy KanjiTalk anymore (Halleluah!). If I believed I was getting dross from Apple, I doubt that I would still be here.

Daniel is not a Mac-basher, and while I agree with you that Apple does not generally release junk, like every company, they sometimes do. The MBP was rushed to market, and I was interested in finding out if, because of that, users found it so flawed that I shouldn't buy one. Perhaps they should have held out for the Merom, designed to run a laptop. I was thinking it was safe to buy an MBP now after seeing most of the responses here and at Mac Rumours, but after reading Daniel's article, I am again not sure.
What is encouraging is reading how quiet and cool the current iBooks are. Perhaps the integrated graphics on the MB will actually be a blessing. I will have to live with this portable for a long time. I want to be happy with what I get, and not infuriated, as I was when I bought one of the early Mac Duo portables many years back.

I ordered on: April 25th.
Estimated Delivery: May 10th.
A simple subtraction equation leaves us with the conclusion of 15 days. They more than 100% off on their claims.
Now THAT deserves it's own thread, IMO.
