And to make it recognize it... plug it in, then either tell it to Detect Displays (System Preferences -> Displays), or, what most people do, simple close the lid, and open it, and it'll do the detection when it wakes up.
Well I bought one (17 bucks seems like a lot for a cord haha) but unfortunately it does not work. Able to return it though. I tried both ways you said and it just does not work. Then I went on Apple and they have a cord that plugs into the display port (for a monitor) that goes into an S Video, so that one should work.
