  • France shames Apple for not sacrificing user privacy for COVID-19 app

Opening Bluetooth access to apps running in the background would be a security disaster.    It is comical that a "Digital Technology Minister" would be demanding it.

It turns out this guy has no programming or software experience.   And, very limited business experience.    He's never developed an app in his life.   A true socialist bureaucrat appointed to help lead digital technology in France.   LOL

  • Intel CEO Bob Swan stepping down, VMWare's Pat Gelsinger will take over

During his prior time as CTO of Intel from 2000-2005,  Gelsinger  championed the architecture that depending on ever increasing clock speeds.   It turned out to be a disaster.    He completely underestimated current leakage and power consumption.   This was the Pentium 4, which peaked at 3.8GHz and led to rapid overheating.  It is the basic architectural approach that dooms Intel to this day

He was also responsible as CTO for Itanium, another complete failure

His other big failure was the "Pentium M" effort whose goal was to reduce power and create more mobile solutions.    Intel has completely failed in mobile.  There never was any type of scalable mobile platform developed

This is the guy everyone is heralding today as Intel's savior

  • EU tells Apple to open everything up to its rivals

"EU regulation fosters innovation, without compromising on security and privacy“

    What a f****** joke

  • Apple Pay keeps growing, but can't catch Visa or Paypal

Apple Pay does not compete with Visa, MasterCard, or AMEX.  It rides on top of those networks

Apple does not process payments.  It relies on these networks for the actual transaction

Why is this so hard to understand?

  • Apple FineWoven case review: Not the leather replacement we were hoping for

Apple really painted themselves in a corner here

They should have launched a sample of the FineWoven while keeping the leather to give it real world resting.  How did this pass their internal review?

Now, they can’t go back to leather

They better be working in FW 2.0 right now

Apple is going to bury his company in an unmarked grave

  • GM ditching CarPlay & Android Auto for Google-built infotainment system

    illrigger said:
That's Volvo/Polestar, Nissan/Mitsubishi/Renault, GM, Ford/Lincoln, Honda/Acura, VW Group, and now Chevrolet that are all-in on Android Automotive, with several others using it as their base without the Google services.

It's not shocking, it's all about money. Apple's Carplay integration requires the carmakers to still develop a local OS and GUI for those who don't have an iPhone, and presumably they have to pay Apple some licensing fees on top. Android Automotive *is* the operating system so no external reliance needs to be assumed, and presumably Google is both aiding in integration and probably covering part of the costs. In the end, automakers get a cohesive car OS that has top-notch navigation and all the apps people want, and Google does all the work for them.

In a day when the software that runs the car is as important if not more so as the hardware, anything that makes the job easier and cheaper for carmakers is going to get their money. Apple dropped the ball here by focusing on making people need to buy more of their products instead of working with the automakers to give them what they need, and Google has been more than happy to pick it up and run it home.

Apple CarPlay is 100% free to automakers.   They do not pay a dime

  • Apple's 'Fortnite' takedown will cause incalculable harm to users, says Epic

What a joke.  They are throwing spaghetti against the wall.  182 pages of pure horse shit

Epic snuck their own Trojan Horse payment code into their app in violation of the clearly written Terms of Service they signed.   It does not get any clearer than that .  Can you imagine the shit show if every app developer decided to pull this crap?

It is remarkable that Tim Sweeney is still the CEO.   Only reason I can think of is that Epic is now owned 40% by Tencent and Tencent is happy with Fortnite users moving to PUG and also wants to set a precedent against Apple

Day by day, the Fortnite brand and market position is getting destroyed by this self-inflicted gun shot to the head

  • Tim Sweeney compares Epic's App Store fight with Apple to civil rights movement

Tim Sweeney is mentally deranged.  Comparing standard online digital store terms with the civil rights movement as his defense for breaking his business contract.  Unreal.  He is the definition of a nut job

Tencent gave him just enough rope to hang himself and take Fortnite off the competitive playing field

  • Ming-Chi Kuo: Investors should be cautious about Apple Vision Pro launch hype

Right now it's just about getting the Vision Pro to developers. I still think Vision Pro will be stuck in a vertical market niche of gamers and entertainment industry. I ask my friends who say 'this is the most amazing thing since sliced bread do you still go to 3D movies?' Almost every reviewer so far says after wearing it for more than 30 minutes you want to take it off. it's too heavy. Maybe future ones will weight less but still you get used to the special effects and it's not special anymore just like 3D movies. Anyway the jury is out until next year.
I have not seen one reviewer say they need to take it off after 30 minutes because of the weight.  Please share some links
