  • Inexpensive 'Apple Watch SE' may arrive at Apple's 'Time Flies' event

Ugly, made for the sick elderly
Please post the pics that you relied on to determine that its ugly.
Also in response to others, I think johnbear is just trying to be humorous. So has to start off and say that it is ugly. And then it would have been easier to catch the rest of the humor if he/she had said it was for Sick Elderly (SE). At least this is my take on the person's comment. A /s would have made it more obvious.

  • Editorial: If you can't see a market for the new iPod touch, you aren't looking very hard

It has A10 because architecturally and cost wise that must be the sweet spot. Yes, A11 and A12 are better still in terms of speed, etc. But architecturally by A10 there is already multiple-cores (especially, including different ones for high performance or better efficiency) and it has decent graphics (A10X is good enough for 4K AppleTV) and some basic AI capabilities for machine learning and AR (although no neural engine?). So probably the best bang for the buck for a "new" lower end model. Probably faster than 80% of the Android models released out on the market this year (all the non-flagships, like Pixel 3a). With iPad and iPod apple does have mid-tier products that are "new". And for iPhone it will just keep selling the iPhone 7 / 7+ to satisfy the mid-tier with A10. Isn't this exactly what Apple should be doing to diversify?

  • Apple Music unveils trailer for Usher's Super Bowl LVII halftime show, shares new artist-c...

Maybe the NFL actually picked Usher to do the Super Bowl half-time show and not Apple? And what if Apple announces that they have rights to film in 3-D and stream on Apple TV the next day so that people can watch in 3-D on their new Apple Vision Pro?

  • New 16-inch MacBook Pro review: More power & more convenience for more money

I don't quite agree with the title of the article (for more money) and with someone earlier (who suggested that the price should drop with their own CPU/GPU).

The baseline 16 inch MacBook only went up $100 or approximately 4% - that is about what inflation has been the past year. Also, the fully loaded model is again very comparable with that of the previous 16 inch model. So where in the actual text of the article is it shown that the more power and more convenience come for more money?

And why would we expect the price to drop from the previous model? These now have much better displays (mini-LED with promotion). Furthermore, with the built-in acceleration for common video and photo operations on M1Max and M1Pro it sounds like they now provide MacPro levels of speed for much less money. No one should have expected the first versions of these new M1 16 inch MacBook Pros to have dropped in cost.

  • 'Fortnite' not coming back to iOS or Mac any time soon

If thing are as reported, I'd say it is a half measure from Apple.

Apple could play nice and accept Epic again in the App Store, assuming they don't repeat any shenanigans—and stop bitching in social media. Or Apple could nuke their ass by banning all Epic developer accounts (e.g. Unreal Engine) which is allowed to do now, if I've read the verdict correctly.

This "so so" approach only gives air to Epic's fiery comments about being mistreated, at the same time that it don't do enough to really hurt them.
Not really. Epic decided to appeal, which means they don’t agree with the judge, which means that they haven’t agreed on anything since filing the lawsuit. Next they tried to manipulate what Apple said during the trial BEFORE the verdict. They want to go back on when they still don’t think what they did was wrong and what Apple did was all wrong. Then Tim Epic badmouths Apple because they won’t give him his way. He wants his cake and eat it too.
This and as a couple of others have stated. If Epic didn't appeal then Apple would have let Epic back. Apple won't let them back until both sides agree on the verdict; this now means once the appeal is granted, rejected or dropped. At this point it is clear that Tim Sweeney has some sort of personality disorder and doesn't care about legal arguments.

  • Microsoft & Harman Kardon take aim at Apple, Amazon & Google with 'Invoke' smartspeaker

If Apple wants to get into smartspeaker in the home they may still be able to wait until this fall. Especially if they improve Siri by then and have something like a touch bar / camera to augment voice interaction.
Current entrants are all still in their infancy with support for US (and some U.K. & Germany). With Siri, Apple could roll out to China, Korea, Japan, Australia and most of Europe and North and South America. Nearly world-wide reach and special interface could be the Unique Selling Point.

  • The best Apple Vision Pro productivity apps at launch

I’m really not impressed with PCalc, OmniPlan, chat,  movie watching on VP, or any other app that just is gonna float in front of me on a. Ritual iPad.   I have an iPad for that.

It’s a spatial computing device.   We need spatial computing apps (3D).   We need Iron Man’s UI for whatever the heck he does.

New fangled 3D design app?  Video game environments that surround you?

Something to take advantage of the huge surround canvas (or 180 degrees of it).   Apple said not to use the terms AR or VR to its developers, but why am I wearing goggles if I can’t get up and walk around something?

Without a new killer app, it will be essentially useless.   No one wants to relearn how to do the same thing on a different tool.   They want a new way to do something new.

Home designer/ Interior decorator apps?   Just throwing ideas out.  I know nothing.
How do you know that those apps you mention aren’t going to be spatial computing apps (3D)? It sounds like those ones are specifically NOT just iPad apps running on the Vision Pro. The developers are modifying them to take advantage of the Vision Pro.

  • Mark Zuckerberg says Apple's App Store 'deserves scrutiny'

Facebook will probably get replaced by something else in not that long anyway. Any one (most) of college age or younger no longer uses Facebook and even those in their late 20's rarely use it anymore. At least in my experience as a Professor and father of teenagers and twenty-somethings.
