I think that the real issue is not the eventual loss of a key's glyph but the fact that one keyboard could be used when attached to any computer using any version of a macOS. Whether it is English, Russian, Chinese, Korean, Arabic, Hebrew or any other language. this reduces cost because only one keyboard need be built or stocked.
