  • Apple to adopt hybrid work model despite worker pleas for more flexibility

    sflocal said:
Employees are going to get a little reality check about who calls the shots.

Those who’d rather stay home will have plenty of time to do just that when they’re looking for another job.
Those who work at Apple will have no trouble finding other jobs if remote is what they desire. Tech companies are throwing insane amounts of money at engineers right now. Talent is not easy to acquire and there is so much competition. The smart ones are offering options with remote only along with these offers. We have had countless no-shows once candidates make it to the "onsite" portions of the interview process because they already have three offers in hand. Just got done paying off someone's entire four year sign on bonus from a previous employer so we wouldn't miss out.

  • Woman gets 18 months behind bars for stealing $1M in iPods meant for Native American stude...

But then again, there was that lady recently on an airplane that freaked out after it was discovered the "baby" she was "nursing" was a taxidermied lynx cat with googly eyes (if you haven't seen the video, it's worth looking up lol).
    That was staged.

I honestly don't get how people think they can get away with it either. I'd like to know more about her mental state.

  • Twitter sues Elon Musk for backing out of $44 billion merger

I feel like I missed something. I thought Twitter provided Musk with the firehose of data so his team could detect the number of bots? https://www.nytimes.com/2022/06/08/technology/twitter-musk-firehose-tweets.html

I guess there is some ambiguity around the percentage of bots that get counted towards advertising numbers and that is what Musk is fighting. This could get messy, but I think with Musk waiving his right for Due Diligence he may get burned on this. This whole situation was really bizarre.

  • Apple HomeKit seen 'gaining traction' in smarthome accessories towards 2023

Why does Apple have to win the home automation market? Can they not just be apart of the quality devices home market? Like computers and other devices, I'm not interested in cheap knock offs that are going to fail, especially when it comes to devices in my home. I want items that are going to last for years and are not going to be replaced every few years.

So far that has been working out. I'm quite happy with my LiftMaster garage door openers, Ecobee3, August smart lock and hue lighting. Everything seems to work well, and can control it all from my watch or phone. It will be interesting to see how much more automated homes can become (predicting renewable energy compatible devices with energy use and gain anticipation algorithms). I am waiting for a good blinds set up, so far I have found them all to be ugly, but other than that I'm not sure what else I would want.

** One point that was not mentioned in the article was that the AppleTV can be a hub too. I'm not sure why there is a focus on the HomePod. I do not own a HomePod, not sure I will.

*** Another point missed: Siri needs some serious refactoring to be a true competitor in this market.

  • Apple's wearables revenue surpasses Mac and iPad in Q3

I'd add those categories aren't nearly as saturated as the Mac and iPad. I wonder how the growth will hold as more and more get wearables over time.

  • Apple CEO Tim Cook reportedly rides Rivian pickup at Sun Valley

I hope you're right Melgross. I think Rivian has a lot of interesting ideas that break the mold. Since I saw them on "Long Way Up" I've really been intrigued. I'm still on the fence between a Rivian and a Lightning as my first EV... but leaning towards Rivian if I know they'll be around for support.

  • Apple wants a Magic Mouse you can tilt for more controls

I guess that makes sense since that is the only way to use the Magic Mouse because you still have to charge it on the bottom.

In all seriousness... this is good to promote for people who have ailments or may not be at a desk.

  • Alleged 'iPhone 7' leak offers crystal clear look at larger single-lens camera, tweaked antenna lin

I'm surprised they are still going with the camera bump. I suppose they feel everyone uses a case. I wonder what the statistics on case usage?

Ultimate reason I haven't purchased an iPad Pro 9.7
