Apple's shift to ARM Mac at WWDC will define a decade of computing
While a new ARM-based MacBook is logical, I would think it would also reinforce the expectation that %desktopOS%-on-ARM = slow. Apple’s confidence in ARM would be clearer if they put it in a MacBook Air, which we already know is a capable machine.Either way, I would replace my 2015 and 2017 MacBooks with an ARM-based model if they ditched the butterfly keyboard in them. If this comes to fruition this year I will find it a very fascinating time, indeed. -

iPadOS 19 rumored to get more Mac-like in productivity push
charlesn said:[snip] If Apple wanted to give the iPad Pros a real sales boost, make them capable of booting into either iPad OS or Mac OS at the user's discretion, which Apple Silicon can do. In iPad OS, it works as usual. In Mac OS, you lose touchscreen capability and it operates just like a Mac, requiring the use of Magic Keyboard with the built-in trackpad. Apple could do this today. Asus ProArt Display 5K review: 27-inch Retina for a bargain
I have to disagree with such a favorable rating.Backlight banding when auto brightness is enabled? Unusable HDR over USB-C? Those two points alone should barely earn 4.Add in the unlabeled controls (unless the labels appear on-screen,) cheap plastic, and speakers that are most likely only good enough for notifications to really make it a pass-with-a-push.I know, the point is the display itself. I’ve waited almost ten years for a decent 5K. Maybe the next Studio Display will be the sweet spot. -
Trump's 25% smartphone tariff starts just in time for the iPhone 17
The childish behavior of the trump has triggered one from me. I will happily cut my personal spending to only necessary items for four years. Will my Apple devices or even my 14 year old plasma TV last that long? I’m sure they will. Why reward the rich kid’s economy?
Fortunately I live near the border so I can spend my money on long weekends and vacations outside the US. Serenity now! -

watchOS 11.4 was briefly available, and was pulled by Apple [u]
The break-through silent mode is curious. I have a configured exception in Sleep Focus that lets one contact’s notifications go to my watch while the focus is enabled. My watch is always in silent mode and this one contact’s notifications have always worked to buzz my arm while sleep focus is on. Maybe they’re making the break-through more obvious than it was before. -
iPhone 17 - Eight upgrade-worthy features rumored for fall 2025
I miss the exciting days of annual phone releases, but not caring anymore sure saves a lot of money. I guess my interest peaked a couple years ago because of everything listed here nothing makes me want a new one.Maybe a plateau in hardware sales is why Apple created the Invites app to add value to the holy iCloud subscription.Of all things, I’d like to have USB-C charging, but I’ll get there eventually. -
Apple prepares to launch Confetti calendar invite system at employees for testing
If it’s an internal tool then there’s little point in knowing about it.That said, maybe this came into existence out of frustration with the Calendar app’s limitations and will eventually be used to improve it.<Anecdote>I often invite my personal and employer (Microsoft 365 then Google) calendars to events like vacations, or add my spouse’s iCloud calendar for things like doctor visits. Every single time I’m thoroughly disappointed.Sometimes invites appear in the Calendar anpp’s inbox view, usually not. A recent invite from my husband came in with completely incorrect time and date. (How do you mess that up without blaming time zones?)
Sometimes you can accept an invite from the email notification, but that’s usually borked. One should not have to know how to use ICS files.</Anecdote>Random thought, why do day-of reminders for all-day events have to be at 9 AM?<Opinion>I have to give Microsoft top rating for their calendar, Google second, and Apple third. Microsoft presents a snippet view of the calendar directly in the email inbox list view, and invites tend to be received and parsed more reliably.Apple makes a lot of money on services but they’re don’t focus on making them great.</Opinion>
