Apple gradually releases new firmware for the AirTag
It's time for Apple to:
- streamline their approach to changelog notes across all software products
- separate security updates from feature updates
- do a comprehensive overhaul of release testing across a broader range of scenarios
The fact that this release is going out without any notes is a red flag for how misaligned the software teams are. -
Procreate tells users, 'AI is not our future'
bulk001 said:As an Apple site, why no mention Apple and their iPad commercial crushing all the humanity out of art and music into computer generated art?
Maybe because — that is just one interpretation? Apple likely intended it to be a fun way to show "condensing a full stage into your device", which is a different interpretation. In any form of art, interpretation is a huge aspect, and yet the loudest group tends to win over in the end. It's a shame because it was a fun commercial. -
Global chaos erupts as Windows security update goes bad
ITGUYINSD said:The headline makes it sound like a Windows Update caused the issue, when in fact, the issue was a 3rd party software company.
Could have been worded better. People are already blaming Windows...this headline doesn't help.
Agreed. Clickbait headline. But in all fairness, it's clearly still another illustrative example of how Windows is a mess, and too risky to be so widely deployed. The addiction has to stop. -
Google could charge Apple users for AI tools in iOS 18

Tim Cook won't get fired by Apple's board of directors -- and is likely to be chairman soo...
Tim has done an exceptional job running Apple. I wish he was a bit more flexible in terms of creative designs like the early iMac days and iPod days. They really had fun with some of the designs, but it's become very conservative now.
I, for one, don't think Apple has bunged up the Apple Intelligence release. Many of the feature are released, and their operating systems are stable. AI tech evolution is moving so fast right now, it's smart of Apple to continue refining their integrations before releasing to the public.
What many critics forget is that many consumers of AI from *any* company are accessing it on a Mac or iPhone, so Apple has already reaped the benefits of a sale to that consumer. -
Apple's satellite plans could be stalled by Elon Musk's Starlink

There’s a word for that. Corr…corru…something.
You can't really bundle Apple into that mix, since they build both hardware and software. Microsoft and Google, on the other hand, build software that runs on other companies' hardware, often through exclusive contracts. Those two companies hold tremendous influence across a global network of hardware makers. Very different from Apple.
Apple can't monopolize themselves.
The rest you already know... Musk is in a unique position to influence how much Starlink can dominate in the market... that's not business-as-usual. It's not about his wealth directly, but his current position in a political "leadership" role.

New Vietnam trade deal means Apple will pay at least five times more in tariffs
Wesley_Hilliard said:So Americans pay 20% to 40% more on all goods from Vietnam and people in Vietnam pay nothing. Good deal bro.
Should someone ban Trump from using the word "Tariff" because isn't he always using it backwards? He claims Vietnam will pay this tariff, but that's not tariffs work.... the importer pays, not the exporter. What are we missing here with Trump's thinking processes? Maybe he's redefined a tariff, and it's now an exporting tax?

Apple insists its AI training is ethical and respects publishers
CheeseFreeze said:Of course Apple hasn’t been called out on ethics and AI. So far there’s not much to see to begin with.
Apple has been employing various levels of machine-learning tech for decades. The keyboard on the very first iPhone employed it ... 18 years ago.
It's only been this latest "GenAI" craze where they were caught with their pants down, but they still make a sale selling devices to consumers that access competing GenAI. So they win either way.
