Apple still effectively blocks rival browser engines on iOS despite EU order
How does a competing "browser engine" help me as a consumer when all of the value-added benefits of competing browsers is the rest of the stuff?
Is it the extension support in Firefox? Extensions won't work in Firefox on iOS when WebKit is the browser engine? That seems like a stretch.
Competition is good, but this seems like an odd battle. For years. Firefox had a sub-standard (slow and bloated) browser on Macs. Where was the wolf cry over that disconnect?
There's nothing inherently wrong with WebKit. It is a near-equal engine alongside the other majors. So what are the major issues at stake? -
Apple's Messages app won't send audio messages with an ampersand
About this... (corrections in bold)Apple's software correctly transcribes brands such as H&M by using an ampersand rather than the word "and," and the transcription engine correctly renders the ampersand in XHTML.
The transcription engine is not doing anything wrong. The ampersand needs to be encoded. Unless the author meant that the ampersand is being *displayed* in its encoded form?
And for those wondering why the author wrote XHTML specifically, it's because of the strictness needed when sending encoded messages. It's not just HTML, but the much more strict XHTML, which is HTML encoded as an XML document.
I normally defend Apple for having minor bugs, but this one is inexcusable and should have been caught with very basic and routine test cases.

Rumor: Apple has made mockups of iMessage for Android with 'Material Design'
Apple makes money from Apple Music, so it makes sense to bring that to Android.
Apple _now_ could make money from iMessages with they new Store integration, so we very likely will see that on Android, too. Prior to the Store features, there was very little incentive for Apple to support iMessages on Android. Apple is increasingly becoming a "services" company. -
Twitter takeover being considered by Google, Salesforce, other tech firms - report
I think it would be a mistake for Apple to even consider this. It doesn't fit into their product path.
I would like to see LinkedIn and Twitter be merged, though. That makes sense. -

Pathetic company. I watched some of the 'event' and it played like a parody of an Apple event. So sad and pathetic. They should stick to ads
Actually, while I've developed an anti-Google stance, I'm extremely impressed by what they've pulled together, and how they're delivering an elegant, well-executed experience. I have tremendous respect for what they are announcing today. It really puts a spotlight on how Apple is falling behind on several fronts. Apple does have the huge advantage of in-house development of high-performance hardware that is not accessible to competitors, but that same competition is delivering in ways that are truly meaningful to end users.
The advantages that Apple brings to the marketplace is greatly blurred and subdued after today.
