  • China calls Trump's trade war a joke, jumps tariffs on U.S. goods to 125%

    DAalseth said:

When china hold a huge proportion of US debt it's a stupid man that provokes the dragon especially when the US need mountains of new debt continually.

The bond markets are the real king here and will determine the outcome of this farce.

I’ve thought for at least 20 years that all China has to do is call in even a good fraction of the US debt they own and it would be all over for the US.
China currently hold about $700-$800 billion in U.S. debt. The GOP did a $2 trillion tax cut in 2017 that was not offset. And they want to make that cut permanent while adding another $2-4 trillion in cuts on top of it that won't be offset either. So China dumping all of their bonds is a drop in the bucket for debt relative to GOP tax cuts.

  • President Trump talked to Apple CEO Tim Cook after China tariff reduction

sdw2001 said: I completely disagree.  I realize it's more than fashionable here to trash Trump, the tariffs, etc.  But the reality is that our trade policy has been a nightmare for decades, particularly with China.
You seem to be forgetting that the first Trump administration withdrew from TPP and NAFTA, did new negotiations, then proceeded to proclaim that the result was so much better than what existed before. Then Trump's 2nd administration claimed that their own trade deals that replaced TPP and NAFTA constituted a national emergency.

How do you reconcile that with your claims that Trump has a strategy in mind? He's already proven that deals he made previously and personally endorsed are meaningless.

  • Trump demands 25% tariff on any iPhone not made in the US

blastdoor said: of course it’s possible. It would just be more expensive to do that than pay the tariff, especially given that the tariff might not be there by the time the US supply chain is built.
    A. Tariffs make imported materials and parts more expensive.
    B. U.S. manufacturing relies heavily on imported materials and parts.

What do you think that adds up to?

  • Trump trade admin calls Apple's China ties a 'Silicon Valley soap opera'

The Trump administration is lying about wanting domestic manufacturing to increase. They have increased the costs for American manufacturers by levying tariffs across the board on materials and parts that are imported. Increasing costs will not make companies more eager to manufacture here. In reality, the Trump administration is doing its best to sabotage U.S. manufacturing.

  • After a lengthy legal battle and billion-dollar loss, 'Fortnite' is back on iOS

Video game consoles: 30% commission on sales in 1st party digital store + no 3rd party digital stores + 30% commission on discs sold in 3rd party retail. That business model has never been ruled to have supracompetitive rates by a U.S. court and it predates the iPhone and App Store. Epic has tried to argue that model is "okay" because console makers don't make as much profit on hardware as Apple. But that argument is not legally based. There is no law that states specific levels of profit allowed for a company that sells a closed system.

  • Trump gives Apple a giant break with wide-ranging tariff exemptions

9secondkox2 said: I also added late that The USA has indeed been getting ripped in world trade forever now and that it's about time someone stands up to global bullies.
The fact is Trump is very easy to read and to predict when you realize that he has America's best interests at heart ad takes action accordingly.
Trump's first administration abandoned the TPP agreement and renegotiated trade rules with China. You're claiming he was doing that in America's best interest, right? So your only choices per Trump and China are (A) his renegotiated deal with China ripped off the United States OR (B) he's lying about it being a rip-off in 2025.

  • Apple to reveal tariff-stricken Q3 results on July 31

The United States...the only country with a leader that thinks tariffs should punish it's own citizens and companies.

  • Mickey & Minions vs Midjourney: Creators sue over turning characters into AI slop

Surprised that this type of lawsuit didn't arrive sooner. AI companies should not be legally allowed to train their LLMs on copyrighted materials without permission. No permission = torrent with an AI app on top.

  • Apple's Epic gamble: birthright citizenship ruling cited to overturn antisteering mandate

One of the Supreme Court's more goofball rulings that ignores over 100 years of legal precedent. SC itself issued the first nationwide injunction back in the early 20th century and federal courts began issuing them a couple of years after that. Class action status was NEVER a requirement. So the 2025 SC is basically claiming that ONLY the SC has the authority to issue nationwide injunctions without class action status despite the fact that nationwide injunctions were never used by ANY court in the U.S. prior to the early 20th century. Quite the convenient timeline cherry-picking by the SC and it completely ignores what "federal" actually means when it comes to the court system.

Right, $2 billion, the dictator Trump tax.

How much did tax payers pay for his golf trip to Scotland...$10 million.

The way he played MAGA sheep with the Epstein file...priceless.

He didn’t even play just drove the cart around and had caddies move the ball to suit
That's what he did in his 1st term as well. For as much "golf" as he supposedly plays, there is very little footage of him doing anything other than riding in the cart.
