  • Notes of interest from Apple's Q4 2018 earnings report and conference call

Someone had a good point about the buybacks. They noted that they likely had to stop buying for a period of time when they knew sales were off before and perhaps shortly after the announcement as that could have been a form of insider buying.

  • Apple's new iPhone 12 may look like an iPad Pro; smaller HomePods in 2020

Yeah, the big HomePod was SUCH a hit, we need a small one.

Make it work with a typical TV or shut it down.
I help but get the impression that you don’t get what the HomePod is for.
I think part of his criticism is precisely that it should be for more. It would be nice if they widened its scope a bit. A smaller version makes sense as long as it doesn't cost a fortune to have a main unit and a few smaller secondary units for smaller rooms.
I think the proper comparison of the HomePod is more to the Sonos One series, and not google home or Alexa. They were designed first as quality speakers, then as assistants. Amazon and Google speakers were designed with inverse priorities.

  • On its own, AirPods could be a $175 billion enterprise

What I would like to see is a round up of everybody who commented that Apple was out of its mind to pay $3 billion for the acquisition  of Beats  a few years ago. Likely a future article for DED if he did not already write one.

  • Apple still undecided on fingerprint tech for 'iPhone 8,' no shipments until October

Good to hear that the rear finger print censor rumor has been put to rest. Even if there's difficulty I like that they have resolved to have it in the display. Still don't understand the iPhone 7S & 8 release. I just have no idea why anyone would consider an 7S with the 8 coming out at same time or right around the corner.
Apple has many client types. They sell the SE very well along the top tier models and also sell year old phones which millions of people buy, not to mention refurb phones older than a year.
