ECG feature in Apple Watch is already saving lives [u]
I have a healthy heart, but I would not consider doing WITHOUT this cutting-edge technology, or Apple’s other innovations either. It is not that expensive — a few dollars a week. The make-believe technologies that we see in the movies will in real life be designed and sold by Apple, Inc. Apple Watch is one of them. -

Apple Watch Series 4 fall detection summons emergency services, saves elderly man
My Apple Watch has asked me on two occasions whether I’d fallen. I hadn’t, but in both instances my left arm was flailing about in an unorthodox way. On one occasion, I had lost my balance after tripping on an unseen obstacle, and luckily managed to stop the fall from occurring. But the Watch did correctly diagnose what was taking place. -
Apple, Google have apologized for privacy issues but Facebook is just sorry they got caugh...
I agree with the editorial 100%. On Jan. 31 the Washington Post reported on a study which found that when people quit using Facebook for a month, the quality of their lives improved — according to those individuals themselves, not an outside expert. Since FB has 2.3 billion members, it is doing a lot of damage to world happiness. It pollutes social life, and should be taxed like carbon emissions. -
Review: Level Lock is the invisible smart home lock with HomeKit for your front door
The Level Lock should have an embedded sensor to reveal if the door has been pushed or pried open. Messaging that the door was recently locked or unlocked only tells the owner if the door was legally accessed with a key or app. But there are breaches in which the deadbolt remains in the regular lock position. Since it is called Level lock, the mechanism could be given a level indicator; then, an out-of-level deadbolt would reveal the door has been compromise by force. Perhaps a different sensor would do an even better job, but the point remains that Level Lock should report if your front door has been kicked in. -
Apple iPhone XR dominated smartphone market in 2019, study finds
iPhone 8 has experienced huge success! The 3-year-old iPhone outsold all non-Apple phones except Samsung’s three top-selling models, and as a 2-year-old outsold every other mobile phone in the world. (It was obviously a huge seller in the two prior years as well.) iPhone 8 apparently provides the vision for the new iPhone SE, to be released in a few weeks. -
Tested: Using the iPhone XS Smart Battery Case on the iPhone X
Could a person drill three small holes in the bottom of the case to restore the mic to full capacity on an iPhone X? Are electronics or battery components contained in the “bottom” lip of the battery case, or would the integrity of the case be impaired? -
Apple's Ive and Newson unveil unadorned fir trees for Claridge's Christmas installation
"Every year the swanky hotel commissions a world-renowned designer to reimagine the festive arboreal symbol in their own style."
This year, the "festive arboreal symbol" was that small pine tree in the spotlight that didn't get chopped down for the brief amusement of people gorged on maternal wealth. In modern society it has become almost radical to appreciate the natural and unadorned. -
Apple expresses interest in autonomous vehicle testing in letter to NHTSA
Apple is not making a car. That was decided months ago at the time of layoffs in the division, and its reorganization. Apple cannot add significant value to the entire vehicle, but only to those parts of the vehicle where data is collected, analyzed and presented to the user/passenger. -
Colbert's 'Late Show' skewers cost, content of Apple's new design book
The latest edition of Miskin, Principles of Economics sells for $355.47 at Amazon right now. That is a mainstream economics text for college freshmen. Other college textbooks sell for about that same price. They shouldn't, but they do.
So making a $300 book into a joke means that Stephen Colbert is a few years behind the times. But I bet old people laugh. I guess that's his target audience.
